Hi all :wave2::wave2::wave2:

We are going to be driving to Disney for the 1st time :scared1: (with an 8 & almost 3 year old :scared1::scared1:) I know we're nuts.

My question is, what is the best route into the property? I remember reading about a back way that's quicker??? Also, where is the best place to see a good map of the roads on the property??

TIA!!

We drive it every time. We are also heading from Louisiana. Our favorite way (the back way) is taking Florida 429 Toll Road. You then take Western Way which brings you onto Disney Property. This is a newer way. It is a neat view as you drive in because you can see some of the taller buildings on property.

Take I-10 to Exit 296 (I-75) South to Exit 328 (Florida Turnpike) to Exit 267 (SR-429) South to Exit 8 (Western Way) onto Disney property. You will end up on Buena Vista Drive and make a right turn for All Stars Resorts, Animal Kingdom, AK Lodge or Blizzard Beach. Make a left turn for everything else.

Thank y'all both so much, I'm printing this out and putting into my all-things-Disney binder :thumbsup2

@smphbear - Hi neighbor!! What part of the state are you from??

If you are taking the Florida Turnpike, be sure to have lots of change. This toll can get expensive.

with the above if you're heading down I-75. You can catch glimpses of some of the property as you drive down Western Drive which heightens the kids' anticipation.

Sorry but I can not remember exactly, just seems to me it was somewhere around $2.50. I am sure someone has an exact figure, but this should give you an idea. We just make sure we have lots of quarters handy when we get the to turnpike portion of our trip. We travel down I-75 from Ohio.

In June, we will be driving from Minnesota with a 7, 5 and 10 month old! Thanks for the information.

Does anyone know how much the tolls would be?

We drive from TN...the polls can add up I am thinking we must have used close to $5 in quarters maybe......this was in 09 so I may be way off but for some reason it was the first thing that popped in my head when I read your question.

OK, if I did it right I found a website that helps calculate tolls. My calculations came out to $2.

Here is the website. floridasturnpike.com

In the drop down menus under Traveler Info I found the link (toll rates) to calculate the tolls. After clicking scroll down until you see the calculator icon.

Really the toll depends on where you get on and get off and for me the site was a bit hard as I am not familiar with FL rds.

All I can say is have as much info about your route as you can to make your calculations easier.

Hope this helps.

When in June? We're in MN and also driving down in June. Will you take it in 3 days? If you haven't figured out your overnight stops, I'd be glad to help. We did it in '09.

We're driving from Columbus in September - hopefully in spring too if I can talk my hubby into it! We've driven to Gatlinberg which is 8 hours so I would think it won't be too bad...am I crazy?

From where we are in Ohio (Just north of Dayton) it is about a 16 hour drive. Not including pit stops. We leave very early drive about 13 hours of that, stop in Lake City Florida, rest for the night, have breakfast and finish the last 2-3 hours, check into our resort and head to Magic Kingdom and enjoy our first day fully rested.

We have driven it straight thru, but are getting to old for that and prefer the schedule we have now. I am sure as we get older that will change as well.

We do the same thing in reverse, not leaving quite as early and stopping in Dayton TN for our hotel rest and finishing our trip the next day.

One of these days we will take the time to see the sights on our way.

We are about 30 minutes outside of New Orleans. Have a safe trip and Have fun!

Just researched this route & thought I'd let you guys know that mapquest pulls this route into Disney automatically for resort directions!
After last years bumper to bumper on I4 I decided there was no way we'd take that route this year!!!
