I'll be staying in a 2br at VWL for the first time this August:cheer2: Any suggestions as to which room (or general area) I should request? :confused3

Arg.. don't know the exact room number, but there are odd room layouts near the elevators with a view of the pool. They are on floors 2 and up. It gives you a much larger living room and such.. someone with a room map would be able to tell you. Very recommended!

1. Ask for an Atrium Room with a pool view - floors 2 thru 5.

2. Ask for a lake view room - floors 4 & 5.

DW, DD, DML, & I just returned from VWL and had Rm 2545 - 2 BR Ded with lake view - floor 2. It was a great room, but you needed to turn your head sideways and squint to see the lake thru the trees, so I suggest going higher than floor 2 if possible. The balcony was great to use (except for the heat). the trees kept it very private, and brought the birds and animals right up close for that early morning cut of coffee.

Don't forget to take the lodge tour. It is at 9AM and starts in the main lobby. Find out which day Ranger Stan is working - He is a GREAT guy and has been with the lodge since it broke ground (at least close by!).

Also inquire at check-in about being flag family. You join the Ranger on the roof of the Lodge and raise all of the flags. It is a great experience and wonderful view.

Be sure to go out on the beach at ~9:30 PM for the light parade - really cool and worth it if you are back at the Lodge.

Dizny Dad,

Are your answers strictly for 2 BRs? We'll be staying in a studio at VWL and would love to know what the better views and rooms are.

Hi :wave2:
I'm Dizny Dad's DW.
I'd keep the request simple: upper floor, lake view. If you're traveling with toddlers or Seniors, you may also want to add 'near the elavator'.
A rule of thumb: odd numbered rooms will have a woods/lake view, even numbered rooms will have a woods view toward the bus stop.

What do you guys mean by Atrium Room? We had a two bedroom off what I'd call a rotunda; am I thinking of the same thing?

Here's my opinion on such a room...
+ You can see part of the Electrical Water Pageant through the trees. We watched it on our balcony every time we were home.
+ Short walk from the elevators
- Odd layout because it's on a corner of the building. General consensus of my husband and friends is that we got the short end of the stick.
- ONE balcony fit for two people. Normal two bedrooms have access to two two-person balconies. That was especially inconvenient as three adults tried to enjoy the EWP.

Couple of things, IMO the lake view isn't really a lake view and I wouldn't want readers to think that they can see the lake. You might see the blue of water through the trees but it isn't a clear view unless some trees died.

Also I thought Ranger Stan retired a couple of years ago, I haven't seen him in a while. Did he come back?

We had a bus stop view. I did not mind at all but you could hear buses in the distance and people kept hitting those cow bells on the walkway. Also people walking by all the time might be an issue if you want to sit on a quiet balcony. The advantage to this location was closer to the elevators according to the check in cm.

We also had bad wifi. Another guest in the elevator said it was better on the other side of the open lobby area. She pointed in the direction of the side of the building opposite the main lodge/towards the lake side.

Bill - you've pulled up a thread that is from 2009. Ranger Stan did retire and unfortunately passed away shortly after that.

We were there in March and stayed on the fifth floor lake side then first floor lake side. We were also there on November and stayed first floor pool view close to the lodge. Wifi and cell phone service was not available in the rooms except the fifth floor one. The front desk assured me that upgrades had been made since our November trip but we had to step outside to use our cell phones or laptops. It was a semi- working vacation for my husband so it was a pain.

I still cry thinking about Ranger Stan. He was a very special man. Touched more people than he ever realized. I know he left a huge impact on me.

I see that now, weird thing is, I didn't go back to 2009. :confused3

Maybe the post that brought the thread forward got removed by the mods. :confused3

I miss Stan too, I also miss Art at the BC, Bob on the podcasts and Caskbill. :sad2:
