We leave for SOG for a two week stay in 6 weeks. I'm wondering which room/area of the hotel to request. We've been to Disney several times, but never stayed at SOG- it was under construction during our last two visits. I am traveling with my husband, and two daughters (14 and 12). We do like to stay up late - so night noise isn't a problem...but we also like an afternoon nap, so mid day noise would be! Thanks for any suggestions from those who have been there!

We were on the top floor of the new wing, first two rooms off the elevator. We did not really ever experience ANY noise. Only maybe one or two families going down the hall were loud enough that we could even hear them. I hear it was much noisier in the daytime/early evening down on the first floor because then you have the noise from the hallway and outside as well and when we were there they had large groups staying all along the bottom floor and they would just hop back and forth between their sliding glass doors, I could see them being very noisy and exuberant, but up on the 5th floor we could hardly hear a sound on our balcony and not at all in our room.

We liked the short walk to our room, the hallways in the new wing are VERY long, that made it a short walk to the elevator, then the busses.

have a great time! I have serious SOG envy ;)

Thanks, Lori! Sorry for the SOG envy thing! I've had that same feeling for the last 18 months whenever people I know are off for a vacation!I like the idea of being on an upper floor - were you facing the pool(s)? golf courses? could you see MK from your window? Thanks again!

Denise - we will be at the SOG April 14-23 - sounds about the same time you are going - we requested the older section first floor because DH wants to be able to drive the golf cart to our room - men!!!

We will be there from Tues April 12th thru Tues April 26th!

Actually, we had a view of the back garden/pond areas. The same area you could see from the construction cameras when they had the webcam going. It's absolutely gorgeous and my kids loved watching the bunnies out there. You can see the MK fireworks really well from the top of the parking garage and you can hear them louder at SOG than you can at MK, it's very strange. Have a wonderful time, I hope you have all the magic we did there and more!

Do you happen to remember your room #s? I asked today when I was discussing my reservations if they could tell me which room I stayed in last year, but they couldn't.

501&502 maybe? I think that might have been it or 502&504 they were connecting rooms and the first one was a handicap accessible room.

Thanks so much! I'll know to request those now ;).

ask to see the room map when you check in and they are the first rooms on the right hand side on the fifth floor of the new wing. The even nicer thing about them is that if you have both rooms you have nobody on either side of you as the first room is the first room on the floor and the second room is up against an electrical room. No noise from neighbors at all :cool1:

Oh, I think I actually have a room map somewhere around here - I'll have to look! Thanks again!

Can anyone tell me if there is a map posted on any website? If not, can anyone tell me how the lobby is set up vs how it used to be?

We always requested the first set of rooms after the long hallway past the lobby before they renovated the hotel. We found this to not be too awfully noisy, but being able to make a dash to the bus shuttle before it pulled away was convenient.......not having to wait for the elevator, etc. Just wanting to be able to give a room number when I make ressies for next year. Want to be close to the shuttle stop.

I'd not been there before renovations but from what we were told that old lobby no longer exists, it's used as business offices now. The new lobby is in the new part of the hotel and to get to the busses you still have to go out in the lobby and down the stairs and through the express cafe to get to the busses. It's not terribly far but not as close as what it probably used to be either. It's certainly not a quick dash :) But it's a beautiful walk!

You really can't but if the rooms are available when you arrive, they will give them to you.

I made my request for a certain block of rooms...not necessarily a specific room, just to be in a general location. I made this request during reservation. Always got what I wanted and never had to remind them when I checked in.

For anyone interested I do have a resort map that I would be happy to email you if you want it - just let me know

We stayed in room 5143 when we went in December. The rooms were about as far away from the pools and restaurants as you could be but it had a great view. We overlooked the 1st tee box for the Palm golf course. You could also see Illuminations from our balcony; I absolutely loved the room and would stay there again in a heartbeat. Have fun.
