I will soon be booking our family trip...13 of us...through AAA and I'm wondering where I should request rooms so we have the shortest walk to Downtown Disney and close proximity to the lobby, where we enjoy hanging out at Christmas time. :santa:

I'd say request to be near the main elevators. That will give you the best access to the lobby and to the DTD path. I think that would be the simplest request you could give that would meet your wants.

There maybe some exit door you could be by that may be technically closer, but you won't be able to get back into the GCH that way.

We were in a standard room on the 2nd floor. It was at the end of a short hallway. It faced the front of the hotel, but was at the very end with the monorail going right by us. It was very convenient.

We had a view of the front of the hotel. It was right there in the lobby area, and had a very quick walk to DTD. Not the greatest view (although I didn't think it was bad, we could see parts of DTD, the monorail go by, and the other hotels), but it was very convenient!

We were in room 4022 in March. It was fabulous. 3 doors from the main elevators. You exit the elevators and walk down a short hall past the convention rooms, then around the corner out to DTD. What we really loved was that we could sit on our balcony and watch the fireworks. Most of them were visible over the roof of the other wing that faced DTD and DL. We were overlooking the courtyard; the monorail ran through it with a very quiet swish every 10 mins or so.
