Hi, first visit to WDW so I would like input on what would be the best room to request of Port Orleans...

Hi Tara,
No worries, we all started out as rookies! :goodvibes

We've stayed at POFQ three times, and we'll be staying there again in November. We request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor of Building 3 or 4. Buildings 3 and 4 are closest to the main building and the bus stops.

Enjoy your visit to the World! :thumbsup2

stitch teacher's suggestion is much better than anyone recommending "the best room" for a couple of extremely logical reasons:
1: "Best" is entirely subjective and wayyyyyyyyy too vague.
2: It never makes sense to request a specific room. There's only a 1 in 1000 chance of any specific room being available at POFQ. When a requested room isn't available, they'll just put the Guest any old place; when you request a general area, it's much more possible for the resort to have a room that meets your request/s.

There isn't a "bad" room at POFQ. It is a great compact resort. Some people would choose to face the pool, some want to be near the pool but not facing it. Others would want to face the river. Others would want to be near the food and the buses. It's all a matter of your own tastes.

Check out the map here:
http://www.portorleans.org/frenchquarter-info.php to get an idea of the building locations. Building 7 looks like it is far away but the resort is so small that it is only a short walk to food court and lobby. I've stayed in Building 5 both times -- the first time our room was as close to the food court as one can get, the second time I was at the farthest point of the building, right on the river. Both were great rooms.

We requested top floor in building 6 and loved it. Like others have said, the resort is so small, that everything takes just a few minutes to walk to. We chose building 6 because it was away from the pool (for noise) and because it seemed like the only building where none of the rooms overlooked the parking lot.

They gave us a corner room overlooking the river towards Riverside, which was absolutely gorgeous and perfect. Loved looking out our window every day.

WE were in building one on the top floor and loved it. WE had a standard view and it was still very nice. We were just a few minutes’ walk away from the main building and the pools. It is a beautiful resort and I hope you enjoy your trip.

Should of asked for suggestions/opinions...wow

OK...so now what about at the POR????? Any suggestions/tips?
First time visiting this property.

I agree with stitch teacher; our stay at POFQ was in building 3, 2nd floor. It was convenient to everything (parking, pool, Sassagoula, the gift shop, lobby, etc.).

We were lucky enough to have our request honored by the hotel. However, I think we would have been satisfied no matter where we were placed, because the resort really is compact enough that nothing is very far away.

Have a great vacation!

I've stayed in buildings 2, 3 (twice), and 6, prefer 3. When I make my room requests I ask for ground floor, near food court, corner room and have been granted at least two out of three each time.

At French Quarter and POR I prefer to ask for a top floor corner room. Corner room gives you two sets of windows. I always love top floors at any hotel. Just my personal preference. At POR I ask for Mansions section top floor corner room. I love the mansions sections. Dont really care if I am close or not. I expect that some folk prefer to be close and I don't care so don't make that a request. My trips are pretty much adult only, no health issues and no walking issues. I want the family with 3 wheelchairs or the ones with two lap children to take up the close in rooms. . .I shall walk.

Preferences are relative to what is important to you. Do you want to be near the pool? near the laundry? faway from parking? near the main building? first floor because you don't want kids hanging over the edge of the railing? top floor because no one is above? corner for double windows?

"Best" is a relative terms. Determine the qualities that make a room "best" for you and your family and then look at the maps and make requests for your needs and wants.

We love POR, we have stayed four times now. It is a very big resort and we always request a building near the lobby, mainly because of the kids and have access to the food court. However, if it were my husband and I I think I would not really care were I stayed. I do love the mansions!, however, we cannot stay there anymore as there are five of us and we have to stay in AB because of the trundle. No worries though we are perfectly content there also the ground are so beautiful!!! Enjoy your stay :cool1:

Love, Love, Love POFQ! We've stayed in Bldgs 4 and 6. Both are nice for different reasons....Both times in 6 we have a great river view. Once we had an outside corner and the dual window are really nice. Four is nice as you are a skootch closer to the food court and bus stop. As others have said, there really is not a bad spot in this lovely resort....Enjoy!

If it helps, here is a map of both POR and POFQ.

I always suggest that people take a look at the map and decide what is best for their needs. What is best to you (I stay by myself and love to be somewhat isolated), you may have needs to be close to the food court or a bus stop.

POR is in green and POFQ is in mauve.

Not that much has been said about building 4 so I will chime in. We were in building 4 on the second floor in February and we loved it. We were steps away from the bus stop and really close to the food court area. Since it was February we didn't swim that much so a short walk to the pool wasn't a big deal. We'll be requesting the same building when we go in 3 weeks.
