My 2 year old daughter and I have Celiac Disease, we were recently diagnosed and have never traveled having to eat gluten free. Can anyone give some tips about which restaurants to eat at and which to avoid? We do like character meals, especially lunch and dinners. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thank you for the link. I looked it over and found some ideas. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Call WDW dining - asked to be connected to a Dining CM who deals with special diets.

They can set up meals at most TS who have Celiac - even Mama Melerose has gluten free pasta in stock.

You can even get a list from WDW special dining of CS items which are gluten free.

The popcorn at WDW is Orville Redenbacher's and is gluten free.

Our DD has no problem eating at WDW, they are so accomodating.

Any restaurant that is owned by Disney is great for dining. All of the character meals are Disney owned restaurants so they're all safe. We've had so many great experiences. WDW's accomodations of food allergies including gluten is one of the main reasons we continue to return to WDW.

As suggested by pooh2001, please contact WDW Special Diets. You will be emailed the most current list of gluten free foods as well as which locations will carry them. Resort CS locations will have the widest varieties of options. At parks, you'll be more limitted to select CS locations but they do still have some great options (GF hamburger buns, GF chicken fingers, GF brownies and cookies, etc). The lists you receive will include this info. They will also email you a form to fill out. Please do fill it out. They will forward it to every location that you state as having an ADR.

Enjoy your trip. You'll be so glad you chose WDW for your vacation.

Also check out the disABILITIES! board. There have been several gluten free trip reports in the last while. You'll be so encouraged that you'll start getting even more excited about going.

Everyone does GF--even CS. You might have to wait a little longer for someone to go retrieve the hamburger bun, but it will get done. DMIL is celiac, and like you, it came when she was an adult. Be aware that things will not taste like you think they should (especially since it's so new for you). Your DD probably won't tell the difference and she'll get over the differences sooner, since she is so young.

Naturally, breakfast is always the easiest gluten free meal. You could still tell your server, but it requires the least manipulation.

DMIL never has trouble eating at WDW--even if she doesn't like the (huge) rice hamburger buns.

Hi,

We just came back from the world in Sept. My dd (8) is on a gluten free diet. We had a great experience with dining for her. We ate at Tusker House in (Animal Kingdom), Akershus in Norway (Epcot), Biergarten Germany (Epcot), Tutto Italy (Epcot), Flame Tree Barbecue (Animal Kingdom) The Luau (Polynesian) and we ate at the Pepper Market at( CSR). The most accommodating Tusker House Akershus The Luau and the Pepper Market. The chef's went out of their way to change things. Biergarten and Flame Tree have quite a bit of stuff on their menu/buffet that are gluten free. The worst experience I had was at Tutto. I felt we were being intrusive and they didn't go out of their way. At least 2 weeks before you go make sure dining has the allergy on your reservation. When you check in and seat you they will tell you the chef will be right over to help you. At Flame Tree it is a counter service but they have broiled chicken legs and that was fine for her. Most of these restaurants stock gluten free rolls/bread and desserts. Let me know if I can help any more. :)
