I am taking my son to Disney (for his first time) to celebrate his 5th birthday. Though we will be leaving a few days before his actual birthday, I want to pick one day to really celebrate his birthday. Are any of the restaurants better for this than others? Where would you recommend as an awesome experience for a 5 year old boy?

We really enjoyed Chef Mickeys for a birthday celebration but this year we're trying something new (and hopefully just as good!) My son is also turning 5 and LOVES dinosaurs so we are doing T-Rex for his birthday celebration. I'm not sure if he'll get as much attention as at Chef Mickeys but I think any little guy turning 5 will be thrilled with either! Hope this helps!

And fyi... some kids get scared at T-rex so we showed our son some youtube videos before we decided. From his reactions to the videos we felt ok making the reservation. Hopefully he wont change his mind once we get there!

Thanks! I may have to look into going to the T Rex Cafe while we are there. I think DS would love it. He's not afraid of much, but I wonder about my baby, who will be 18 months old.

For birthdays, anniversies, and other celebrations,
no restaurant is that much better than another restaurant.

1) Acknowledgment is a matter of the CM's personal initiative.
2) It also depends upon how much they like you as a guest.
3) CM's can do a lot, or they can do nothing at all.
. . . they are under no obligation to give goodies or even acknowledge, or
. . . they can go way overboard and give lots of gifts to a guest
4) The CM's have a lot of leeway of things to do or not do for you.
5) Have your anniversary-birthday-celebration noted on the ressie and ADR's.
6) Some of the things a CM can do for free are
. . . decorate table with Mickey confetti
. . . best table location
. . . special personalized menu
. . . character-autographed birthday cards
. . . balloons
. . . wine or champagne or Shirley Temples
. . . appetizers or desserts
. . . cakes
. . . cupcake with candle (almost always available for the asking)
. . . placemats autographed by characters
7) If there are multiple celebrations for people during a trip
. . . do not do separate celebrations
. . . one person may get an enthusiastic CM, and get lots of goodies
. . . one person may get a lazy CM and get nothing

I love Chef Mickey's for birthdays. It is fun and the kids seem to always enjoy it. Plus, the make your own ice cream sundae is a big hit with kids.
