What is the best restaurant in magic kingdom or near by resort, one table service credit only. Right now I am thinking of taking the kids to Chef Mickey's (for the fun only, not the food)

I personally love Liberty Tree Tavern at MK. They have a character dinner that is served family style and the food is very basic--ham, turkey, beef, mashed potato, green beans, salad, rolls--but good. You won't miss out on any character interaction since the wait staff serve you large bowls of everything instead of you having to hit the buffet lines (which always results in missing a character or having to take turns to be sure you don't miss one in my experience).

good choice, I'm not a big fan of MK rest. other suggestions would be Whispering canyon, or ohana's.

LTT gets my vote. The food is served family style so no getting up and down for a buffet. I think it is one of the few character meals that is on the relaxing side:) It's basic comfort food, the service and atmosphere are great. The characters come by several times and are so funny! I think everyone should try this at least once.

My second choice would be 'Ohana at the poly. Actually I recommend doing both if you can:woohoo:

I like Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner at the MK. I also like the way its served to you so you don't have to wonder what you're missing out on while you are at the buffet! We also very much enjoyed Tony's at the MK. A lot of people don't but we had a wonderful meal there in December. Your idea of hitting a monorail resort is also a good one. We love Chef Mickey's, O'Hana and 1900 Park Fare for character meals and had a really nice lunch one day at Kona Cafe. Sometimes its nice to leave the park for your meal.

There is also the Plaza inside the MK. It is one ts but not generally thought of as a great deal on the DDP since its mostly sandwiches.

we like liberty tree tavern in MK for lunch

always get the crab cakes appetizer, pilgrim's feast (turkey dinner) and chocolate cake

prefer lunch over dinner - no characters, quieter meal (for us)

O'hana at Poly is a great restaurant. We're trying Crystal Palace in MK for the first time this trip.

Chef Mickey's is a great choice! It was the favorite of my kids last trip. We also like Crystal Palace and Ohana. If they are big Mickey fans then go to CM if more of Pooh fans then CP. Ohana is a fun for dinner too! No characters but games for the kids and great food!

Crystal Palace has fantastic character interaction and food, much better than Chef Mickeys IMHO. This one gets our vote.

Here's what we like in the MK areai in descending order from best on down:

Kona
'Ohana
Chef Mickey's
Crystal Palace

Another vote for LTT! This is always our first dinner every time we're in the world. It's not gourmet, but it's very tasty "comfort" food. I agree with the others that this is probably the most relaxing character dinner available, and the interaction has always been terrific. If you're not interested in a character meal, then 'Ohana's or the Kona Cafe at the Poly would be my choice.

We love Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner!

Kona is wonderful, too, but there is less of a "fun" factor. My boys, however, did love their dessert there!
