Would love to plan a spring trip with my family, DH, DD9, DS7, to travel with my parents. Dad moves rather well with his new hip from this summer; Mom just had her second knee replaced Dec. 1. In all probability, she will need to rent an ECV. She is very familiar with them, as she has been using them to shop for well over a year. Would probably just rent off site, have it there when we arrive, and let her decide how much she wants to use it. (But I'm guessing...constantly.)
Looking for opinions on best resorts for ECV use. My family has stayed at WL :) , OKW:love: , and YC:love: . It was suggested that we stay on monorail, as it is easier for her to load vs. bus, but if we are walking distance... Or, are any of the moderates exceptionally friendly for ECV's?

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

I would suggest figure out which parks you will be going to most.

If it will be MK and Epcot you are probably best off on the monorail.

If it will be DHS and Epcot then either Yacht, Beach or Boardwalk to either go directly or use the boat.

WL and AKL (as well as OKW or SSR) will require buses to everywhere.

As far as the moderates, POFQ and POR are reasonably compact but CSR and CBR are both very spread out (and of course will need buses for everything).

I understand everything you said; but my family will be flexible if Grandma can go with us; so I want what will be easiest for her. My first choice is probably any of the 3 Epcot deluxes, but years ago I know she wanted to stay at the Poly. My husband and kids loved OKW; if parents don't go, that's probably where we will stay.
My concerns are not so much in relation to the parks, but which resort is "favored" among those who regularly use ECV's, and why. I can't remember, but don't you have to change monorails from the Poly to get to Epcot? Are some resorts easier to navigate than others; I'm sure they will need a handicapped access room.
I'm on the resorts board daily, so I "get" everything about favorite mods, deluxes, etc., but what I can't find is the same thing for disAbilities.
Any more suggestions???

I actually find the monorail quite irritating with my DW and her wheelchair. The ramps at the TTC are a pain (if you do choose the Poly you can walk to the TTC to pick up the MK or EP monorails directly rather than transferring), plus, sometimes they forget to tell the operator at the next platform that you are in the car and there's no ramp to get off. I'd rather use buses.

We stayed at SSR last Jan and my DFIL was using an ECV. He commented that the ECV gave him a lot more freedom with regards to travel around the resort. We had a couple of problematic bus experiences, but, it wasn't really all that bad and he got used to parallel parking the ECV on the bus within a day or two.

I do recommend renting from offsite because the boring walking to and from the parks can really use up one's energy and then she can always park the ECV to walk around the individual lands and use her energy for the fun walking with the family.

The EP resorts are great with an ECV because you can walk to both EP and DHS, but, make sure the rest of the family (or at least one person) will want to walk with her because getting the ECV on/off the boats can be a pain sometimes.

I think that OKW would be a great choice because she'll also be able to take the ECV over to DTD.

I only stay at the Poly. In no particular order: it's fabulous, gorgeous, etc; the ECV fits in the rooms quite nicely (although there are only 2 of us in a room); I can wheel to the TTC for MK and Epcot, or for MK right from the Poly lobby; pool area pretty well suited to the ECV. i could go on but you get the idea...
