When DS was around that age, we stayed at POR in the Alligator Bayou section. This worked out really well for us for several reasons. First, if your child is like ours, you will need downtime from the parks. POR (esp. Alligator Bayou) has all kinds of little paths to walk around. We would go back for a nap, then while DH was running, he and I would walk up and down the paths, looking at ducks and chipmunks and finding ENORMOUS pine cones. One day it was raining so DS and I walked under the roofs of the connected buildings for a good half hour. POR is a really great place to disconnect from the craziness of everything else.
We also like the fact that there was a trundle bed under one of the full beds. My son is very used to sleeping in his own bed and this little bed was just the right size. We were able to bring everything from home and make his sleeping area as much like home as possible. As far as I know, no other WDW hotel has the trundles.
The other big thing for DS was the boat ride to Marketplace. I know that other hotels offer boat rides to other places but this is the only one that goes by a giant sea serpent! He was so excited the first time he saw the slide at POFQ.
Admittedly, POR has always been our favorite. DH and I honeymooned there 15 years ago and we've been back there many times. But it also fit well with our family's life style of loving nature and needing quiet.
