Best resort to relax?

Just curious. I’ve been to POR, YC, and WL and was wondering besides those three which do you recommend? Relaxing atmosphere is preferred... thanks in advance.

YC was awesome being close to the parks, but was very hectic with the conventions folks. POR had a lot of folks, but WL was perfect. Just want to try something different. Was thinking AKL?

We usually stay at the Boardwalk Inn & I love the laid back atmosphere of the place. It’s kinda lazy - like my family...lol.

This might be moved but I'll answer. I think that AKL is a good idea but be ready for it to take a bit longer to get to a few of the parks. POFQ is also very peaceful.

This is a dining forum, but.....

Animal Kingdom Lodge is spectacular.

The daytime includes animals strolling on the savannah that has vista viewing points throughout the resort for any guest to enjoy.

And if you're OK with 'exotic' flavors: Boma (for buffet breakfast/dinner), Sanaa (for lunchtime/daylight dinner view of the same animals), and Jiko (for a Signature experience that includes wines from South Africa).

If the resort was more accessible to the Parks (you cannot walk out the door to any Park), then we'd stay here more often.

If you thought WL was perfect, I would give AKL a try. It was designed by the same architectural firm as WL so it has the same type of feeling but, obviously, different theming and decor. The lobby is lovely and it has two great pools.

We found the Villas at Grand Floridian extremely relaxing. The whole resort is lovely, but the Villas building was so peaceful. And the feature pool (with slide and games, etc) was mere steps from the building.

Always loved walking into our "home away from home" after returning from a park. The lobby is no comparison to the main building's lobby, but it was always quiet, hardly anyone around other than the cast members who were ready to help you in any way possible. The penguin fountain in the lobby is adorable and soothing, and when we were there, beautiful Christmas music was always playing.

It was one of those sort of unspoken gems of our fabulous trip. The wonderful feeling of just being in that place.

I highly recommend it, and with the ability to rent DVC points, it's much more affordable than booking a regular hotel room at the GF from Disney.

AKL would be my first choice. It is a bit out of the way which means that you won't get as many people resort hopping just stopping by to see it. I also like POFQ and the Wilderness lodge for this type of relaxation.

Totally agree! We have an upcoming stay in April. We also love the proximity to Epcot, which has our favorite food in all of WDW...LOVE that we can just stroll over to eat there whenever we feel like it!

I also love the AKL...absolutely gorgeous and very relaxing IMHO...but I have to agree with the previous poster who said they'd stay there more often if it was closer to the parks.

AKL is a great choice for a relaxing trip, maybe with less park time.

We did a Resort only week back in June at AKL, it was wonderful! I would definitely recommend it for a slower paced or no Park vacation. The resort has so much to see. It is definitely one if those places were you can see/do as much or as little as you want. Prior to check in i was concerned that we would regret not planning park days but i can honestly say we felt if we had a park filled visit we would have been wasting your money by staying at AKL.

Thanks for the responses. I think we have narrowed it down to AKL and POFQ. Have never stayed at either. I will watch some you tube videos of the resorts and see which seems more appealing. Don’t think I’ll like the outside corridor though to POFQ.

I think the boardwalk area would be nice -you have an ice cream shop- Ample Hills (which is amazing) and in the evening there is street entertainment. The polynesian would be a good choice too and if you did it in the evening you could watch the fireworks from the beach. AK would be a definite choice as you can view the animals and there are great restaurant choices. I don't think i would do the trek to a resort just to relax there unless i had a dining reservation. I would plot out a monorail resort tour which could end with dinner at one of the monorail resorts.

In your situation, I do agree AKL would be a good fit for you. It only has bus/car access to parks, though, if that matters to you.

You said you loved YC except for conventions. If you stayed at its sister resort - the BC - you'd lose the conventions, but you'd still have the same pool and access to parks. BC usually does has a busy lobby, though with families/kids rather than conventions.
