best resort for family of 5

It all depends on the budget. The least expensive way for five to stay onsite is POR. You can get a regular room for four which has a trundle bed which pulls out from under one of the beds. It is on the small side, but okay for a kid. She could also consider a family suite at the ASM, two value rooms, a cabin at FW, a room at a deluxe which sleeps five (most of them do) or a DVC unit. But POR is the least money, and is a nice, fun place too!

Well, it you have military benifits Shades of Green would be your best bet. Everything is discounted, and the basic rooms are the largest It can hold 5 people

Last year my husband and I took our 3 girls to WDW. We stayed at the Yacht club and it was awesome! The room had two queen beds and a day bed. We also got bumped up to consierege level when we arrived for NO ADDITIONAL COST!!! How cool. Plus, you will love the pool. It has sand in the bottom of it and a huge sand pile in the middle for castle building. Everyday one of the Disney employees came out and worked with the kids on building a huge sand castle! The mousekeeping there also did a fab job on the room and made little animals out of the towels! And you have the added bonus of walking to Epcot or a short ferry to MGM. And the boardwalk is really cool!

If your friends have older kids then POR wont work. We have 5 in our family petite 16 yr old,18,19 DH and myself. I was told that they could not and would not book us in 1 room at POR. The 5th person has to be 9 and younger. Good Luck! We did stay at Contemporary last time and LOVED it. Lots of room for us.

Our family of five stayed at POR when the children were younger. Last trip with all of us was to the BC. It was great. Easy access to Boardwalk fun, Epcot and awesome pool. The kids enjoyed the arcade and Beaches and Cream too!

We have stayed at FW Cabins with 5 and with 6, and both times I found it to be the cheapest, if that is important to your friend. The nice thing is that you have a full kitchen (with dishwasher that Mousekeeping loads and turns on!) You basically have your own house, with daily maid service
You can buy some groceries and save some money on food that way too. We have always rented a car when staying at the cabins though, as we have found the bus transportation inside the campground a little cumbersome during the busy season.

Again, it depends on the budget. ALL of the deluxes are great, and most sleep 5, but it A LOT more money the even two rooms at a value.

The cabins are a little more expensive than the new family suites at ASM, and two value rooms costs a little less than the suites. I love the fort though, we will be staying in a cabin for the first time in a couple of weeks, $250 per night in value season.

We faced this issue the last time we went to WDW.
Although I really wanted to stay on site we decided to stay at the new Nick hotel. I have to say my kids really loved it.

We just did 2 connecting rooms at Pop in December and loved it! We did not want to be all in one room and this gave us our space plus 2 bathrooms which was great in the mornings!

How old are the kids? If one is under age 3, the family can stay in a room that sleeps 4, and ask for a crib for the youngest.

I have been looking at the YC for our family of 5 but thought we had to have a 2 br, which is big $$$. Please let me know and also the rate you paid. Thanks. We are going in 2008 and I've already started looking and options for the family of 5 is limited.

We only got the one room. My husband and I slept in one bed, my youngest and middle dd's slept in the other, and my oldest slept on the daybed. It was perfect. Last year we booked a package with room, tickets and dining and it was $4100. This year we booked the same package and it was $4304.58 so a slight increase.
Hope this helps. One other option is Port Orleans because they'll sleep 5. We chose not to do that because we liked the location of the YC better.

We are from Canada and sometimes out of the loop My husband doesn't think the dining option would benefit us??? I still am pondering that one. I think the YC looks like a great location as well. Oh one more thing. Did you eat breakfasts and light meals in your room? Is there a grocery store nearby and what else in the room besides fridge and microwave? toaster? coffee maker?

Do all the rooms at POR have the trundle bed option. Also can you get connecting rooms that would each sleep five?

The trundle beds are in the Alligator Bayou section of POR. We stayed there when our children were younger. Our oldest son loved the trundle bed.
