Hi everyone! My DW and I are thinking about going back for a 10 day trip in May/June...just the two of us :thumbsup2

We are annual passholders and priced out some rooms. We are building a house, so the budget is a concern here. As you can see, we have stayed at the Poly and the WL recently (and loved both). So here's the questions:

-It's been years since I have stayed at a moderate (11 years ago POR)...will we be disappointed?
-Best moderate for adult couple?
-If you go moderate, is a preferred room worth it?
-It would be $600 more (for example) to stay in a STANDARD room at AKL than it would for a preferred room at CSR....worth it?? (a savannah room is more than it would be to stay at the GF (no joke))

Thanks everyone!!! :goodvibes

To me, the best moderate for a couple would be POFQ. It is small, not as many kids :worship: and has the best transportation available. Most times we have not had to share busses with riverside and the boat to downtown is great. There are no conventioneers there :cool1:. Scat cats and Marty Grogs for the sipping kind. Food court is fine with us as when we want more, we take the boat over to downtown. Beautiful landscaping. We never request anything other than ground floor near main lobby. We have been in buildings 2,3, 4 and 5 and had a great time. Love how small and quiet this resort is.

My husband and I just got back from a honeymoon in Port Orleans Riverside and we absolutely loved it. Beautiful scenery and we enjoyed spending time at the River Roost bar. On our first night there we took a horse and carriage ride through the resorts (including French Quarter.) I've never been to a deluxe so I can't compare, but we were definitely satisfied with our stay.

Have you considered renting DVC points? You can book rooms directly through vacation club memebers and save tons of money. My wife and I have done this twice. Stayed 4 nights at Old Key West for 500 bucks and 5 nights at Saratoga Springs for 600 bucks. Price those rooms through the disney website and you are looking 1600 bucks. Just a thought. There is a DVC Disboard that will walk you through the process.

Having done a few trips with just the two of us, we have experienced both Mods and Deluxes.

For Mods - we prefer POFQ. There are some preferred buildings but the size of the resort doesn't make sense to do them. We find that side very relaxing and seems more grown up. There are quiet pools around the resort if the main pool is busy. POR is just down the walking trail if you want to take in a table service. Check out the entertainment by the food court at nite. Not sure of the gentlemen's name but he was great. If you can get a room by the river I think that would be the best. A little out of the way but easy walking. Think families would like to be closer to pool or food. There is only one bus stop but it is the first stop before heading to Riverside.

For Deluxes - We enjoy Wilderness Lodge. The resort building is such that the walk from one thing to another wasn't very long. That is the one thing we didn't like at AKL. We had a savanah room which was great but the walk to food, bus or pool took 25 minutes. At WL you have the electric boat parade every evening, great pool, food and bus service. We love the theming. Plus it is on the cheaper side of deluxes.

Have a good trip. You can't do wrong with either a Mod or Deluxe.

My husband and I took our first adult only trip in November.
We stayed at the Yacht Club and it was perfect!
We were able to walk to Epcot in the evenings and enjoy many great restaurants. It was Food and Wine Festival as well.
There was also lots to do on the Boardwalk as well.

Most families with kids tend to stay on the Beach Club side, the Yacht Club was very quiet. We had a water view room of the pool, the lake, and we could watch Illuminations from our balcony!!

My husband and I have stayed @ Caribbean Beach a few times and love it. The Caribbean feel, music, beaches w/ hammocks to relax on, the pool side bar, and the main pool area is awesome w/ 2 hot tubs. Each Island does have its own pool and laundry area. The food court is your average food court, nice gift shop. We have done a standard room every trip except this past May we stayed in the pirate rooms for our daughter. I believe the standard rooms are fine b/c we our never in the room more then to just sleep and shower. This resort is a large resort but the walking has never bothered us, however you can book a room closest to Old Port Royale ( which is where the food court, gift shop and main pool area is located).:yay:

POR is currently undergoing refurbishments and will be done right around the time you arrive. My BF and I stayed in a POR refurbished room in September (Acadian House) and it was great. I will say though, that I do have a concern that POR will be crowded in the coming months especially with kids, with the new Royal themed room openings in March. I think that will be a big draw for families with kids.

POFQ isn't a bad choice and is also newly refurbished. A friend of mine spent her honeymoon there and they loved it so much, they went back and stayed there a second time the following year. We checked out POFQ one day and found since it's small, it seemed like there were people everywhere and we felt both the food court and bus stop were also very crowded. We also didn't like the pool there.

I do love the boat to DTD from POR/POFQ. We like to hang out there and check out the entertainment, so this was a nice perk since bus service between DTD and resorts is so awful.

I might pick CSR. I've never stayed there but we are looking at it for our next trip after staying at POR the last two times. I also keep reading about how romantic it is!

We'll be going on our first couples only trip to WDW and are really looking forward to it! We'll be staying at POR..we'll let you know how it is.
