I'm thinking about planning a suprise 40th Bday trip for my DH this February. We would fly in on the 25th and leave on the 29th (or possibly the 3rd). We have only ever stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and this would be our first trip without the kids. We love all the parks so it's hard to use that as a deciding factor.

So, the questions are:

Which resort would you pick? Which one will give me the most bang for my buck? (remember, I'm saving for this without him knowing so we're going to be on a budget)

Anyone have any "I suprised my DH and it was a disaster/marvelous" stories?

Looking for some help in getting this trip started!

Thanks!

To be honest, the two most romantic WDW resorts are the WL or the Poly. Personally, I would pick the WL but that is IMHO. :)

Why not try the AKL with a Savannah view - no impatient kids to have to get ready and get onto the longer bus rides, nice pool, beautiful views of the animals, great grown-up restaurants (Jiko, Boma) and the place has a sense of romance and adventure.

IMO, the best resorts for adults are the Epcot area resorts. I'd go for the Boardwalk Inn. It's very pretty and romantic, close to Epcot and MGM and has some lovely quiet places, like the rose garden quiet pool. If Boardwalk Inn is out of your price range, I'd try the Swan or Dolphin -- also very nice resorts and often available for the price of a Disney moderate. Swan/Dolphin are also in a great location. The Epcot area resorts offer great dining options, all within walking distance, and some fun evening entertainment options.

I agree with ElizabethB. The Boardwalk Inn is perfect for couples. The EPCOT location is fantastic. The Boardwalk is so nice at night. It's the perfect choice, I think.

I also agree that the Epcot area resorts are in the most "adult-oriented" area of WDW. But since these resorts are expensive, I'd look into renting DVC points and getting a studio at either the Boardwalk or the Beach Club. Or even a studio at OKW is nice - great themeing and very relaxed!!!

Enjoy whatever you decide!!! :goodvibes

I'm facing a similar problem. DH and I are going down for our anniversary in Dec. He thinks we're staying at the Shades of Green (which is a GREAT resort if you're eligible) I want to surprise him and currently have the Poly booked. I'm going back and forth between there and the Grand Floridian. It makes it easier to set money aside because he knows we're going, I just have to set extra aside.

If you can't do any of the deluxes, you may want to look at Coranado Springs. It looks beautiful. I haven't stayed there, but that's where we're conisdering staying the next time we go.

my husband and I are staying at the Polynesian...it is so lush and romantic....the epcot resorts were not a choice for us...I think the Magic Kingdom oozes the Disney spirit and we wanted to be able to watch Wishes and the water parade from the Poly beach at night after having a cocktail at the Tambu lounge...at first we booked the Grand Floridian...I then changed it...to us, it seems like a hotel that could be anywhere in America...there is nothing particularly Disney or special about it....

You said budget right? I cannot afford the deluxe hotels on a budget. We disneymooned at POFQ the court yards were beautiful and the resort is small. We actually saw a couple having champaign(sp?) and strawberries one afternoon and another a couple having a picnic. We were there during spring break and it never felt crowded. Do research and see what looks romantic and comfortable to you:thumbsup2

On a budget I think POR is nice too. The have the horse drawn carriage rides, beautiful grounds and more. DH and I went there and had a great time!

Hi:)
I was in your shoes a few years ago and surprised my husband w/ a b-day trip to WDW. We stayed at POR (mansion side) and it was one of the best trips we have ever taken to wdw. Like you said, your on a budget and your paying for it, and I was doing the same thing.... this resort would be everything you dreamed of and more...
Here are my reasons for loving this resort so much:
* the grounds, service, and hotel are wonderful *the boat to DTD makes shopping there even more fun * the bar w/ the piano man is great entertainment, (you will not be disappointed); the private pools are really PRIVATE!!;* the horse and buggy ride at night (by reservations) is so breathtaking we even brought a bottle of champagne w/ us on it to celebrate his birthday; *the fishing pond is a nice break; the walk from POR to FQ is beautiful and quiet
imo: pictures do not do this resort justice; experiencing it is so much better.
You can not go wrong w/ this pick and I dont think you would be disappointed at all! :cloud9:

I also love the Epcot area!

The Swan/Dolphin often have great rates that cost about as much as a Disney Moderate.

They are real 4 star hotels.

Deluxe but not as expensive as Disney's deluxe resorts.

The heavenly beds are ...well heavenly.

The Grotto pool and hot tubs are fun and relaxing.

Plus Epcot and MGM are just a short boat ride or walk away!

From Epcot hop on the monorail and head on over to the MK!

Have fun at Disney wherever you choose to stay!:wizard

I think the Yacht Club would be nice for a couple and I also agree with the others re: Epcot and a resort in that location.

We've haven't stayed and the Boardwalk Inn (yet) but it certainly looks lovely! Have a great trip!
