Best process for rental car drop off right now?

Anyone on a recent cruise use a one way rental car?

When it was the whole family, I dropped the bags and everyone but me then headed to the rental car return, grabbed the shuttle and met everyone back at the terminal. This trip it will be just my wife and I and I am trying to figure out if I should still drop the bags, or take them to the rental car return and put them on the shuttle.

I'd still do it that way - drop off the wife and bags before returning the car. Its much easier for a single to get on the car rental shuttle bus without bags.

I was even thinking about dropping the bags and then staying together to drop the rental car and then the shuttle with just our carry ons. .

That would work too, but it is a bit harder to find space on the rental shuttle for two people and their carryon bags than just a single driver.

We took the shuttle both ways with bags. Avis asked our PAT before taking us and it was quick in both directions. I don’t think it would be easy to test before dropping the rental car, which is too bad because it would have lowered our overall waiting time.
