Best price on iPads?

Of course DH just decides he'd rather have an iPad than a netbook for Christmas so now I am looking for the best deals. Are most prices the same everywhere or are there any deals out there?

My hubby has decided he wants one also. I've decided to give him the money and let him choose if he wants to buy now or wait until the second generation comes out (rumored to be in February).

As for cost, have you looked at the Apple site to see if there is a refurb option? I've been watching ads, no one seems to put them on sale. I think the best scenario was 10% off at the Apple store on Black Friday or that some TJ Maxx and Marshall's had them for $400. Ours didn't.

Apple usually doesn't discount (black friday they did have them for $458) but they sometimes have refurbed ones for less. I don't know if you'd want a refurbished one, but they do come with the same warranties and protection care as a regularly priced one.

Thanks, I figured they'd be the same price everywhere just figured it didn't hurt to ask. I read Sam's Club is now offering them but it doesn't show the price online.

The Apple site has refurbed ones available, which will be the cheapest (other retailers are not allowed to discount, only offer incentives like free giftcards). However, the new model will be coming out in February, so you may want to think about if he would want to wait for that one.

Don't waste too much time looking -- as with everything Apple, the iPad is "price-fixed" meaning the price difference between an Apple Boutique Store and a discounter, such as Walmart or Target is going to be matter of pennies.

However, since Target sells the iPad, you could apply for the store's credit or debit card, and take 5% off at the checkout (which should cover a good portion of the sales tax).

Also, if you are military, the Exchange (the retail stores on military bases across the U.S.) sells the iPad, tax-free to authorized customers.

I too, am waiting for the new model, but most of the new rumors are now saying April...

I personally would wait for the next generation which would be April, not February. if waiting is totally not an option then go the refurbished route.

Thats what I have been reading as well. Originally they were saying Jan. But then the rumors switched to April because Apple tends to keep new updates at the same time and the iPad came out in April. I am waiting for the new one as well.

But like most have said your best price right now will be a refurbished one through Apple.

Well, i was going to get my mom one but now that I see that a new one will be out Feb/April I may just give her a gc and tell her to wait.
