Starting our plans for September and want your advise:

Which DVC location in Orlando do you think has the best pool area for young kids (6 and7)?

Thanks!

Beach Club Villas, Storm-A-Long Bay.

AKV Kidani would be second (especially if you have young kids), but a distant second. Actually, with kids under the age of 5 or 6, AKV Kidani may even be better. For every other age group, however, it's not close.

BCV has Storm Along Bay that is head and shoulders above any other resort pool, DVC or otherwise. The others aren't even close.

BCV
My kids loved it!

There is a shallow play area with sand that is fun for younger ones.

There is also a really cool whirlpool. I had my kids wear life jackets since they were not strong swimmers yet, and I sat by the edge. They would hop in and let the current pull them around in circles- great fun!

The shipwreck slide is really neat too. There is a slideshow available of stormalong bay that is helpful for seeing the different areas. You should be able to search this forum and find it.

The downside of stormalong bay is that it is big- you have to keep track of little ones. We played with our kids and DH and I would each take a kid when they wanted to split up. It was not a lazy day by the pool for us!

So, depending on how well your kids swim and whether or not you like to play too, it could be a good fit.

Good luck and have fun!:)

Typhoon Lagoon! Our home resort are the BCV and we love Storm Along Bay, but NOTHING beats the fun we have at Typhoon Lagoon!

Not only is SAB great... the Beach atmosphere is great. They have nightly movies on the beach with Campfire, s'mores and sing a longs.

DS (12) absolutely loved SAB last year when we stayed at BCV. That has made BCV HIS favorite resort of all time!!:thumbsup2 My countdown ticker for Kidani in March has a pic of he & I playing in one of the rafts. He had a blast & loved the sand bottom! I thought he'd play on the slide more but I guess it was bumpy or something. I have a bad back & did not go down it as DH agreed that it was a bit rough. But they were both happy to just play in the pool all day. We will get to compare to Kidani in March!

At 12, my kids tried SAB, they loved it, and had a blast. I hated it cause I couldn't keep my eye on them while they were doing the lazy river thing, unless I was in the pool with them. It's long and winding and hard to keep watch over them. That being said, they preferred the 200 foot winding slide at BWV and that's the pool that had their vote for number one, and mine, as it was easier to watch them (not that I didn't love the slide too :lmao:).

Now, however with AKV, I'd vote for that pool for the kids.

Good luck and have fun!

great info - i think I will have to look into SAB and AKV. thanks for narrowing it down to 2! this is a great help!

Are your kids good swimmers? If not, you may want to rethink SAB. There are some very deep areas (over 8' deep) with very swift currents. If you are not a good swimmer and not expecting it, you can be swept into the deep area very easily.

But if your kids are good swimmers, SAB would be great for them. You just need to keep your eyes on them.

One question....do your kids always stay together.....will there be 2 adults there???

Because SAB is VERY spread out....you actually have to leave pool complex and walk across path to get to the slide.....If your by yourself...it could get very hairy with 2 young kids. Not my fav pool by far to chill on my lounge chair with a cocktail...watching the kids.....

It's the play area at Kidani that I think put that pool ahead for ages 6 & 7. My kids made so many friends and had squirt wars and they all had a blast and would meet up each day and do it all over again. If I recall right, SAB doesn't really have anything like that.

That's a tough decision. I took my DD 11 and DS 7 in Sept 2009. We stay 3 nights at BCV and 3 nights at AKV. During the 6 days we were there we only went to the park once for MNSSHP so we spent most of our time in the pools. My kids loved both pools and would have a hard time choosing one over the other. Overall they had more fun at AKV because the CM's had a lot of great pool activities at Kidani. It was like having a babysitter! They also made some friends at Kidani.

My kids are good swimmers so I was comfortable with them in the water and currents at SAB. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

For 6, 7 year olds, I would pick Kidani's pool. Our DGC just loved it, and the CM's activities that were offered. It was easier for the adults to deal with, too!
