Best pool to spend a day at?

We stayed at the Contemporary last summer with my two boys (almost 2 and almost 4). They enjoyed the pool. Preschoolers won't be thinking "well I'd rather be at Stormalong Bay..." Actually, I have also stayed at YC and I'm not that eager to return until my kids are older and more independent since you have to leave the pool area to access the slide. At the Contemporary, it's easy. My almost 4 year old was going up the stairs and putting himself down the slide independently. My one complaint about the Contemporary pool is that there was very minimal shade and very few umbrellas. We were there in mid July.

Checking out other resorts (gift shops, lobbies, food establishments, activities yes) but pools are for the guests of that resort only. There are some exceptions if you own DVC, but otherwise you can only use the pool facilities at your own resort.

If the OP is not staying on their DVC points, they cannot pool hop to any other pool but the ones at their resort. If you are renting DVC points, you cannot pool hop since you are not a DVC member and not using your own points.
