Best Point and Shoot Camera (again..and hey Jack?)

Jack,
What lens do you bring as a good all around lens for a day at Disney? I have a DSLR and a few lens and an external speedlite, but I dont want to tote my big bag around!

While at the parks i carry a canon 60d with an 18-135mm attached as a walk around lense. i also carry a canon 50mm f1.8 for the darker rides. while in the parks i carry my equipment in a camera waist pack (looks like a fanny pack, but larger) .

What camera and lense's do you have?

I am a long time Nikon SLR user. However I am a fan of the Canon compact cameras. I have had 4 different ones, and given several as gifts.

Currently I use a Canon PowerShot A3300 IS.

It is small, comes in colors, and not expensive ($159 list).

Specifications:
It has a slightly wider lens (28mm equilvent).
16.0 mega pixel, 5X Zoom, 3.0 in screen, HD Video, Image Stabilazer, etc.

Recommendation: Get an extra battery.

When you do your updates on your quick lunch visits, do you normally carry one, the other or both?

Always have the Canon Compact. It is easier to use, and actually takes better video.

Often, I also bring a Nikon D7000 with an 18-105 lens. The Nikon works better for action (6 frames/sec.), and is better for effects (Shallow Depth of Field), and has much more battery life.

But as you can see, the Canon Compact can take nice sharp photos without much thinking involved.

I used to use a Canon Dslr, sold that camera and lenses and went with the simple Nikon D5000, but I use it more for a big point and shoot..most of what I post is taken with that..a couple were taken with a Sony bridge cam.
If I want to take real good photo's I use a Hasselblad 500cm which I have 6 lenses for..I have had this for a long time. It took me a while to get away from film into digital..a long time.

This is all very helpful and much of it over my head. I'm looking all these up and reading reviews. Holy Cow..once you start it gets overwhelming..I now have a whole page of cameras with so many different models and such and no clue what all the different numbers and letters and stuff means.

You can go to www.dpreview.com, you can do comparisons there.

I have a canon T3i and I have the 18-55 kit lens and a 50mm 1.4 and a 55-250zoom lens. I have the big canon bag that carries everything w my speedlite but I bought a smaller bag at target last week for my trip. It can hold the camera, 2 lens and the speedlite very snug and I will be taking it with me for most of the trip but I just want to bring 1 lens to the parks!

I will also bring one of my point and shoot cameras for my husband because he has no idea how to use the dslr...I had to take a class to get the hang of it!

That would be perfect! Now I WANT that lens, but my husband would kill me if I got another lens! I just don't want to keep changing lens and slow everyone down!

All in all, find one that feels good in your hands and that meets your needs for picture quality and ease of use, good luck.

The Canon SX230 and 260 are fine compact superzoom cameras that take very nice pictures. However compared to the compitition they are a little sluggish with shot to shot speeds.
If shot to shot speeds are of a concern I would probably go with the Panasonic DMC-ZS20 or ZS15. They are much faster but probably don't take quite as nice a picture as the Canons.
The Fujis cameras have some interesting/inovative features that the other brands don't have along with a slightly larger sensor. They tend to be a bit more "quirky" to use and require a little more manual intervention. I've been waiting for a good review on their newer cameras but most sites have been avoiding them lately. The last good review on an older model indicated that they were fast in the bright daylight but sluggish indoor or when it was dark.
If you prefer picture quality over zoom and price, go with a prosumer based camera like the Canon S100 or Olympus xz-1 (Olympus is a little big for the pocket though). They have biggere sensors and brighter lenses giving them a step over the superzoom cameras in the quality department. The brighter lenses let them take pictures in the dark better as well.
