When it comes to food at Disney, AK doesn't come up maybe as much as it should. Obviously Epcot has legitimate reason to be the place to go in terms of food at Disney but I think AK is a true hidden gem.

For me, everyone has to eat at the Yak n Yeti. The decor is rich and exotic looking and it has a wonderful atmosphere (it has a buzz but at the same time relaxing)

As for the food...YUM! If you like that sort of thing of course.

What do other people think about eating at AK?

Lets try and make a good thread out of this

Thanks guys
Stu

P.S. I still need to add pictures to my new laptop but when I do I'll put the Yak n Yeti food pics I have up.

Well-I wouldn't exactly say "Yum". Much was expected of Y&Y, but the menu turned out to be heavily strip-mall Chinese. They do have a good selection of beer and sitting in the bar around lunchtime is a great way to pass an hour or so.
I'll grant that Y&Y is clearly the best restaurant at the AK.. which isn't saying a whole lot, I'm afraid.

We ate at Flame Tree BBQ (CS) at AK in July for lunch. We thought the food there was excellent. We are from NYC though, so we are not used to "real" BBQ here! Someone from Texas or NC probably would not touch this place with a 10-foot pole because the BBQ where they live is much better! Along the same lines of my own issues with theme park pizza since I live in Brooklyn, NY!

We did love Flame Tree though. AK is definitely lacking in dining, especially CS, compared to the other theme parks, but this place was great for lunch. I had the pork sandwich and DH had the ribs. Our 3-year-old enjoyed the kids' hot dog and DS1 shared my sandwich with me. DH and I both had key lime pie for dessert which was excellent.

I was pleasantly surprised by Restaurantosaurus. It's still just burgers, but the addition of things like sauteed mushrooms and onions and things was nice.

Yeah the beer at Y n Y is good...

I only say yum with what I had, so I can't speak for the rest of the menu.

But still, if you guys have had good experiences put them up because AK is much easier to eat at than Epcot or MK in terms of table service so it might help people out!

We loved Flame Tree :thumbsup2 I had the ribs, DS12 had the smoked turkey sandwich & DD18 had the fruit plate. We will definitely eat there in the future.

We have always enjoyed Flame Tree Barbecue. And we went to Yak & Yeti in September and fell in love with it and it will be on our "to do" list every year now. I loved the sweet and sour pork, DH had the duck and our friends had the shrimp and steak. Let's just say not one of us left a morsel on their plate (okay, except me...I didn't eat the stir-fried veggies...but I don't like veggies).

We've eaten at all the CS's and tried the TS Tusker House in June. We were ok with it.It was good but nothing special. I am trying Y&Y in Jan so until then I can not make a educated choice but thus far I am pretty dissappointed with the food options at AK!

PS- oh and I do love the park!

I have a breakfast adr for Tusker House in Feb. Cant wait. Whats everyones opinion?

Love AK and love eating at Flame Tree Barbecue and Tusker House on DDP. Wish I can say the same with DHS, there is just no good counter service in that park.

I went with Tusker House cause there was no good character breakfast at DHS. I wish there was though. But I am glad to hear that Tusker House is enjoyed.

My adult DD and I were at Y&Y in October for lunch and LOVED it..it was up there as one of our fav meals and we were on the DxDP!

We enjoyed the atmosphere and our server was great..we went with his recommendations and could not have been happier...
Appetizers:
We had the Wok-Fried Green Beans - battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce I didn't think they would be good , but they were amazing and we had chicken pot stickers....the sauces were great.

Main course : DD had chicken lo-mein..loved it and I think I had ribs...I can't remember but I know I enjoyed it.....

Fantastic...I'm really loving learning about eating at The Animal Kingdom. Before we went to the Yak n Yeti (just at random without an ADR) we pretty much stuck with burgers and pizzas at AK which seems a shame considering the amazing theming all over the park.

The BBQ place is a definite 'must do' for March when we go next!

Any more experiences? Keep them coming!

Stu

I like Tusker House (before AND after the retool)....I think the best idea would for them to put their old chicken salad on the buffet, THEN they would be amazing!!

We went to both Yak and Yeti and Tusker House last year, and next week we chose Tusker House between the 2...

The only place we at in AK was the Flame Tree BBQ and I agree with all the positive reviews here. It was fabulous. Next to Sunshine Seasons, it was probably our favourite CS food.

We'll be eating at Tusker House next month which sounds great. As a bonus, we get reserved seating for Nemo.

Being a S. Texas boy I have to say that Flame Tree BBQ is very good. It is probably our favorite counter service in all the parks. I also enjoy the seating how you just kind of keeping wondering further and further back until you find that great spot. Do be warned of "poop" droppings falling from trees.

For Counter service Flame Tree BBQ is good. I have never ate at a TS there.

I think the only thing I've ever eaten at AK is a cookie (a really yummy one, but just a cookie) from one of their snack carts. I'm wondering if its worth it to leave and head elsewhere for lunch or just hold off and then hit downtown Disney.

I forgot to mention we had the Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade for our dessert. It was very refreshing! We also had Frozen Chai Freezes from Royal Anandapur Tea Company. I had read about them on the boards & we were not disappointed--they were so good! They were kind of thick, but smoothly blended (no ice chunks) so they did not melt too fast. Perfectly flavored :) RATC is not on the DDP, but well worth the OOP if you like chai like me
