After much thought, we are going to buy into the DVC!!!! We are planning to come the first week of December and are so excited to stay at a DVC resort!!! Just wondering what you think is the best place to stay around Christmas (decorations, events, etc.)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I can make reservations May 5th for the seven month window!

All resorts have the Christmas spirit in December, but my favorite is the Wilderness Lodge. Traditional red/green decorations are all over the resort and the "wilderness" feel of the resort adds to the holiday feeling.

My second choice would be the Boardwalk.

Happy Holidays!

I agree with VWL but I don't think you'll have much chance getting there in December at the 7 month window. Never hurts to try though!

BWV would also be my second choice. Those are both home resorts for us so I am naturally biased. :)

Congratulations on buying into DVC. I hope you have many years of great vacations.

another vote for WL:thumbsup2, it's really nice to be able to hop on the boat back to resort after late MVMCP too

If you are buying through DVC now: (a) you are unlikely to get anything other than your home resort or SSR for early December which is one of the highest demand times of the year; (b) you may not even get your home resort unless you insist as part of the sale that the sales rep assure that you get the time and room you want; if you are buying resale, you don't have that option and thus you may get nothing except SSR if that is even available.

Other than the above, consider BWV ideal for Christmas (Haven't stayed at VWL then).

vwl
akv - jambo house
bcv
bwv
blt

if you have a car -- or can walk alot - go around the parking lots to see OKW and SSR self-decorations. also go to fw if you can.

this will be my first dec at BLT so it may go up the list.

I know I will be in the minority here, but VWL would not be our first choice. I had no problems getting a reservation there at under 7 months although I thought it would be impossible. Although VWL was beautiful, there are other resorts that were just as festive. I don't think you can go wrong with any resort, but if I were to go again, I would pick Beach Club or Boardwalk, just my .02.

For us, it would be BCV or BWV because we do Christmas specifically for the holidays around the world and CP at Epcot!

I guess VWL is too much like my Minnesota home for me to fully appreciate it. I like the lighter color decor of the BWV and BVC decorations, even though I am most definitely in the minority.

Being from the Midwest our favorite has always been The Wilderness Lodge at Christmas Time. With the pine trees and backwoods theme it gives us that traditional Christmas feeling. The Grand Floridian is also nice with the large gingerbread house in the lobby.

For something fun to do try the Wilderness campground cabins. Get a golf cart for the length of stay and put christmas lights on the cart. Its like one big party every night there with all the sites decorated and carts cruising around all lit up.

While I have to agree, there is no other choice at Christmas than the VWL, we really should tone down our enthusiam. The more people that try, the more people that end up liking it:love:, the harder it gets for us to make reservations:headache:. I think we should really start up-selling the AKV with their origami tree, BWV with their chocolate display, OKW with the palm tree wrapped in lights (so not to be missed), BLT with their silver tree etc. - get my drift;).

Most definitely listen to this advice. If you are buying from Disney directly, talk to your guide about confirming a reservation for you during that time otherwise, you will probably be out of luck. If you are buying a resale, plan on going at this time next year. It will take about two months to close and you will be way past the 7 month time frame.

I love VWL, especially during the holidays, but that resort is small, owners book there at 11 months out and there will probably be no availability during the time you want. The only thing you might find available will be SSR or OKW and even those might be hard to get.

I would have to agree that VWL is our favorite. We've been to the others and they all are nicely decorated but the tree in WL in front of that huge fireplace is just hard to beat at that time of the year.

Wilderness Lodge is the best at Christmas. Well themed for the season. Absolutely beautiful.

PS - sign up for the sleigh ride at Fort Wilderness! It is really a great way to spend a half hour - through the Christmas Lights & high end luxury RVs. It is very romantic, hooves clip clopping, lap blanket if you need it - just cool!
