Hi all,

We've decided to rent ECVs for my parents on our next trip rather than hauling theirs down. Where is the best place to rent dependable ECVs that do not go at a turtle's pace? Any input and contact info would be appreciated!

Subscribing.

I have never paid attention since we have not needed one. This October, someone in our party will definitely need one.

I will speak to those who want to load the ECV into a vehicle. DH hates taking the scooter onto the buses because of some nasty comments he has heard in the past about people on ECVs and the time it takes to load them onto the buses. So we rent a car and want an ECV that can be easily disassembled and put into an SUV or van. We rent from Apple and have been most pleased. Their weekly rate is great. They deliver and pick-up and will gladly meet up with you to show how to use and take apart the ECV.

We'll be staying at BWV and are able to avoid the buses and still get wherever we want to go (my parents aren't that fond of Animal Kingdom). So, being able to break down the ECVs is not important for us. We'd prefer to find some that have a bit more umph. I rented some for them once before, back in 2006, but I honestly cannot remember which company I used!

Anybody have suggestions with contact information for the rental company?

Thanks!

We also stay at BWV and DH won't take the bus to Magic Kingdom.
Apple also rents regular ECVs. Here is a link.

You also may want to do a search on the Disabilities board. There are a number of good companies to use.

We have used Apple twice and highly recommend them. I believe their rental cost is the least and covers insurance. When I used one last year (broken ankle), I found it had enough umph to go at a good pace when I needed it to. For instance, we stayed at the BWVs and I didn't take the Friendship boat over to DHS, just "scootered" over. I used the turtle mode when in the parks for safety precautions. I didn't like taking the bus and the day we went to MK, I motored through Epcot and took the monorail to the TTC and then the monorail to the MK. I will say that I never encountered any rude people and found some really kind and considerate fellow travelers, not to mention all the terrific CMs.

This is exactly how we get to MK when mom and dad are on scooters. The only time it proves to be a problem is when we are at MK for Extra Hours. You can't cut through Epcot to get back to BWV after 9:00 pm.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I appreciate the help!

I have had very good luck with Walker Mobility. They deliver to and pickup from the Disney Resorts. Be sure to visit our DISabilities Board here on the DIS where you will find an enormous amount of info on this topic! :)

Just a followup question about posting...

I posted this thread in the Planning forum because reserving the ECV for delivery at BWV is part of the planning stage for our upcoming DVC trip. But, now I see the thread has been moved to the Mousecellaneous forum. Why did this post not belong in the Planning forum, as it pertains specifically to the planning stage? :confused3

Actually, this thread probably should have been moved to our DISabilities board where it would be most appropriate. But, we chose to place it on DVC Mousellaneous where there is a bit more "leeway" at times... We will move it over to DISabilitites for further discussion and/or input. Thank you.

The DVC Planning Board description follows:

DVC Planning Board Description and Appropriate Topics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DVC Planning -- tips and questions regarding the use of your membership (resorts, services, restaurants, programs, and DVC perks).

The DVC Planning Board is the place to ask questions and share experiences about organizing and planning DVC vacations. It is also available to discuss how to best use your membership including membership perks. Discussion of resort features and services, restaurants, tours, programs and other DVC specific perks belong here.

Questions and discussion regarding the technical and philosophical aspects of renting should go on the DVC Operations Board. Any discussions about renters getting DVC perks, DP, DME, AP discounts, room requests, "what are my chances of getting a reservation", or resort activity questions all belong on the DVC Planning Board.

Any threads/topics not DVC specific will be moved to the appropriate DIS forum.

If you have questions about other WDW resorts, restaurants, tickets/ticket brokers, weather, crowds and other non-DVC related information, please post those on the appropriate boards (Theme Parks, Resorts, Restaurants, Trip Planning, Rumors, Budget, etc.). If you have questions/comments about non-Disney topics, please post those on the DIS Community Board.

NO “For Sale” posts are to be made anyplace on the DISboards website. This includes making mention of resort, Use Year or number of points when requesting information about selling. "Want-to-Buy" posts are also not allowed.

Post # 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread has information about renting ECVs and wheelchairs, including links and phone numbers to the off-site places that DIS posters recommend most. All have different types of scooters and all will deliver and pick up without charge.

You can find the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature to get there.

Carol, thanks so much for the thorough reply! I knew there had to be a logic behind it... I just didn't know the specifics.

Sue, I will venture over and take a look. I have to admit, with the limited time I have online, I haven't ventured to many other forums. I always fill my time trying to catch up reading posts over here in DVC, or may take a peek over at the Wedding or Food forums. The rest are like Greek to me! I should block out some time to familiarize myself with what's available elsewhere on Disboards. Again, I appreciate the replies.

We rented from Apple Scooters last year for my dad. He needed one for the long park days, and when we tried to rent from the park years ago, the scooter was horroble. So this was the first time we'd had a scooter the whole trip and it could not have gone better. The scooter was actually pretty fast, my dad would be way ahead of us if he hit a spot that was not crowded. It was small and manuvered really easily.

We did have a car (it was a mid or full size) and by the end of the week we had the scooter taken apart or put back together in under 30 seconds. It also held its charge the entire day. Although we charged it at night, it never even dropped from a full charge during the day.

One of the things we did was leave our small rolling suitcase in the trunk. At the end of the day we would leave most of the scooter in the trunk and just wheel in the battery to be charge.

I'm happy to answer any other questions.

I'd recommend Walker Mobility. They have top of the line scooters that are very comfortable and have plenty of power. Also deliver and pickup and have service people onsite at Disney and Universal should the need arise.

I have used randy's mobility in Orlando several times, last year I needed one for a week and some days while we went on a Disney cruise, and my mother in law thought that maybe she could use one on Disney world day and I think he charged us only 11$ more for hers! A few years ago when I first started looking a lot of companies wanted to charge extra for insurance, sun umbrella etc etc etc Randy was like no way, the sun unbrella you won't use in the park and it gets in your way and no extra charges! Check them out, do price comparisons. By the way they will go over the ecv, I also had a glitch with mine while at magic kingdom I called and they came into the park and met me by haunted mantion and switched my cart out! Unbelievable great customer service!

I have rented from Walker Mobility several times for the last ten+ years. I highly recommend this company. My scooter is delivered to the Bell Services at the resort and usually arrives before I do. At the end of my stay, I just return it to Bell Services the night before I leave.

The employees are very friendly and efficient. Last week while I was at WDW, a friend decided he wanted a scooter, too. I just called and ordered another scooter to be delivered. My friend had problems (self-created, don't ask :) ) & a Walker employee walked him through it. I happened to need a different battery charger & one was dropped off at the resort while I was at the park.
