Best place to order birth certificates?

I need to order a birth certificate (there is no hurry) and was wondering the best place to order them from. I did a search on the internet and came up with numerous sites and I can't decide which one to order it from. In case it matters, the birth was in NC. Thanks.

DON'T order it from a 3rd party. You will 1) pay too much, and 2) place your vital info in someone's database.

You can also use www.vitalrec.com
It's the vital records division website and it was easy and painless to get ours from there. You would just click on the state that you were born in and it will give the instructions from there!

Definitely go directly to the state's dept of vital statistics. I live in FL & you can also order one (or go in person & get one right on the spot) from the county in which you were born, but if there is no rush, it is cheaper to order from the State. Don't forget to get more than one! it's cheaper/certificate and then you have a spare (or 2 or 3).

I have used www.vitalcheck.com with great success. You can order for any state...and YES...always get an extra copy since its cheaper for the second...why not have a spare!! Allow at least a couple weeks for regular delivery.

Check with your state and order it directly from your birth state's capital...probably called something like the Bureau of Vital Statistics...something like that. Your local health department can probably provide the phone number to call since they would assist new mothers in getting copies of the children's records. Same with your children's school office. I'm sure they know the number since they would need each family to have a copy for school entrance.

I accidentally threw out my DS's birth certificate. I was able to go directly to my local office of Vital stats in West Palm Beach...For $11.00 they printed a new one in 5 minutes while I waited....
