Back to planning and I would like your vote on the best place for lunch. Just looking for casual and fun. Going to H&V for dinner before fantasmic. I think I'm becoming a planningaholic.

Sci Fi Dine in Theater. We've eaten at all the sit downs at MGM and it's our favorite.

I've read good things about Brown Derby, such good things that I added it to our dining list. I don't know how casual and fun it is, though. You would probably like Sci Fi Dine In. Their milkshakes are delicious!

Prime Time gets our vote as well. Nice place to take a break from the park and get a good laugh at the same time.

Basic burgers fries and milkshakes- Sci Fi
Heavier fried chicken and fries or meatloaf and mac and cheese...50's Prime time(fun place go more for the atmosphere)
Salads and yummy sandwiches- Brown Derby- this is where we would go if we didn't have 4 children now(we have eaten there in the past and never have been disappointed-had some great salads here)
But with kids our choice is Sci Fi. But make early or late ADR's or you will sit and wait for your table here. on average we wait 30 minutes+ past our ADR here.

I think the best casual place in MGM is Sci-Fi. Great burgers and shakes. However, we love PTC and HBD also. We have a lunch ADR for Sci-FI and dinner ADRs for PTC and HBD because we never can decide which one we like best. No matter which one you choose you'll enjoy it.

We enjoyed Sci-Fi theater very much. Good food and fun atmosphere.
For quick and no planning or ADRs required...ABC commisary. Nothing special but basically good food with a flood of ABC programming promotions.

I actually like ABC Commissary. The sandwiches are normal fare, but they are gigantic. You could always split them and the fries and still be full.

Another vote for Sci-Fi. It is my kids' favorite! Their corn soup is out of this world!!! For counter-service we always stop in Pizza Planet.

I think most all places in MGM are good. Prime Time Cafe, Pizza Planet, Hollywood & Vine (big lunch).....

My three children and I love Sci-Fi Drive In. The atmostphere is very entertaining, and it is a great break from the heat in the middle of the day - sort of an attraction in itself!

Another vote for Sci-fi. Since you will are having a big dinner, you may want something lighter than burgers (which is what I recommend at Sci-fi). It you are looking for something lighter, I'd look to the Sunset Ranch Market. I haven't eaten there that often, but when I have it was good.

I personally haven't found one yet. The low end places are terrible (especially fast food places) and my only experience with Sci-Fi was nothing short of awful. First, I had PS but still had to wait 45 minutes to be seated, then (and I know this is my fault) I am a large person and found that the seating was very close and extremely uncomfortable, it took forever to get someone to take my order and twice as long as forever to actually get the food, and then when I got my bill they had included the table of six in front of me on my bill so my hamburger came to $78.00. On top of that after about the 7th time you have seen the film loop, that get's a little tired too. At one point when I asked for catsup she just leaned over to another table and grabbed theirs and basically threw it at me saying, here they're done with it. (they weren't, btw, and later asked me to give it back to them)

Interesting and creative idea but has many flaws. Can you tell I'm not impressed with food service at Disney/MGM?

For counter service, my kids love Pizza Planet. We have to eat there every trip. This year I had made a reservation for lunch at the Sci-Fi, which ended up being closed when we got there. I thought it was going to be a special treat (we've eaten there before-fun), but the kids were all happy that we got to go to Pizza Planet instead. When we passed by Backlot Express near Indiana Jones, we noted that we should eat lunch there sometime. It looked like a good menu.

I feel the same way as we had a similar experience @ SciFi. MGM is the one park we do not look forward to eating at. :sad2:
