Is there such a thing as a decent place for $50 a night? I am going solo to watch DD play volleyball and looking for a place to crash my head at night and not worry about low lifes :scared1: hanging around. Any good ideas?

Thanks, YO

We have always had good experiences with www.hotwire.com. The last 4 WDW trips we took, we used Hotwire and ended up at really decent hotels- never paid more than $45/night.

Others swear by Priceline.com, but I don't like them as much. Both sites work pretty much the same way- you plug in your dates, area you want to stay in, and the number of guests, and the hotels available come up. You won't know the name of the hotel until you book and pay (and once you do, there are no refunds), but on Priceline you bid on how much you will pay. Hotwire lists a per night price, and you can accept or decline it. All amenities are listed, as well as the star rating for the property, so you know a bit about the hotel before you commit.

There is a site, www.betterbidding.com, that lists Hotwire and Priceline hotel lists. This is a really helpful tool for narrowing down the potential properties you might end up in based on location, star rating, and amenities listed.

We have stayed at several hotels in the LBV and Main Gate (Hwy 192 near I4)areas, and haven't been disappointed yet.

It too used to use Priceline until I found Hotwire. Somebody on these boards posted a tip as to how to find out which hotel it will be on Hotwire and it works.

Look for hotel first. Note exact description of area and amenities icons and then do a search for flight and hotel for exactly the same dates for hotel. this then gives you hotel names with areas and amenities so you should be able to work out which hotel is being offered on hotel only.

Worked for me and got great hotel in exactly area I wanted with breakfast and shuttle guaranteed.

Would not go back to Priceline after Hotwire as price was just as good.

barbarah, thanks for the great idea to figure out what hotels they are offering. I have started looking them up.

MomofKatie, Thanks for the tip. What actual places have you stayed?

I have so far found air+hotel for $450 staying at the Days Inn Maingate East, if it the place I think, I've stayed before, my DW hated it & I figured it was ok. I'm gonna keep looking though.

Thanks, YO

MomofKatie, Thanks for the tip. What actual places have you stayed?

In January 2007, we stayed at Howard Johnson Maingate East. Not the greatest, but we were on a super-budget trip (SIL invited us along with them in their DVC, then reneged 2 months before the trip), so it was fine for the $$- think we got it for 7 nights, total price was just over $225. Wouldn't stay there for more $$ than that, but fine for a cheapie, just-sleep-and-shower-there sort of place. Clean, spacious rooms, very no-frills, but served its purpose.

Last October, we stayed for 1 night at the Radisson Resort: Celebration- with fees and everything, it totaled about $70. Very nice place, great pool complex. Would stay there again.

In May of this year, we got the Extended Stay Deluxe on Palm Pkwy in the LBV area for Mother's Day weekend for $32/night. Nice hotel- rooms are mini-suites with full kitchen, living area, and bedroom alcove. Free continental breakfast, decent pool and spa. Very convenient and clean, and the staff was very professional and courteous. Would definitely stay there again, even for more than the price we paid.

Our upconing January trip is another budget one- we got the Best Western Lakeside, just west of I-4 along 192, for $34/night. We'll see how it is when we get there, but from the research I've done, it looks pretty good. Sort of comparable to a Value on property- several low-rise buildings on the campus with several pools, a main building with shop, CS type restaurant, etc. Also has a full 18 hole mini golf course. Older property, but gets pretty good reviews overall on TripAdvisor.

MomofKatie,
Glad to hear that about the Extended Stay I see that is pretty inexpensive too.
Hey I was wondering how far is Charolette from Randleman NC. My DD got to go to Victory Junction camp last summer and has been asked to come again this summer.(a very cool camp built by the Petty family ) My DW took her last year and this year we all may go and I thinking about going Charolette to see the race track. Just curious. Any other sites I should be thinking about out there?

Thanks, YO

You'd be about 85 miles from Charlotte- Randleman is just south of Greensboro. The Lowe's Motor Speedway is in Concord, a northeastern suburb of Charlotte. You could get there in a little over an hour from Randleman (about 75 miles)- it is pretty cool for race fans to see. There is also a big outlet mall right down the street from the Speedway for your DW.

Since the economy is what it is, I am going to publish my favorite budget place in Orlando so it will get enough business from you all so it will still be there when I need to use it. ;)

I assume OP will have a car and be driving around Orlando.

I book thru expedia and stay at the Masters Inn-Orlando at 2945 Entry Point Blvd. 192 West of Maingate area. It is one half block south of 192 on Entry Point Blvd, the road to the popular Windsor Hills rentals. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...8.272032,-81.608849&spn=0.068335,0.11055&z=13 On this map scroll north and the motel is across the street from Map Point #105. Green roof with the pool. There are no residential areas next to it, so no “walk thru” local foot traffic. From that standpoint as safe as any 192 motel. But there are stores and food places on 192 within easy walking distance. Saves lots of left turns in the evening rush traffic.

If you just need a place to shower and sleep without bankrupting yourself. If you want Disney Luxury, try the Boardwalk at $320/night. If that is your minimum standard, don’t stay here and whine about it—no one on the Disboards wants to hear your whine. OP wants a safe place for the night for under $50. This place is fine for the price. I’ve paid much more for much worse. Usually runs about $49, have seen it go up to $59 for busy weekends, and down to $39 for slow weekends. expedia shows Dec. 13 for $32.

My unofficial poll: I see how many motels expedia shows in Orlando for under $40. More than 10, it’s slow season. Today expedia shows 21 under $40. Expedia shows 31 different places in Orlando for under $50, starting at $29(Econo Lodge Maingate in Old Town area :scared1: ). Orlando must be DEAD.

(it does not show today on expedia—might be closed, but there used to be another named Masters Inn on 192 at Old Town for about $5 less, but I would not stay in that area—too slummy. :scared1: Make sure you don’t book this one.)

What I like is mornings: turn right out the motel, cross 192 at the light, drive in McDonalds (#157 on that Google map) get an Egg-a-Muffin to go, and left onto Sherberth Road, the “secret back” road onto Dis property to the Osceola Parkway at the AKL/AK. Motel to Dis four min., NO traffic. :thumbsup2

Thanks FlaNative! We just booked at the Masters Inn for Jan. 16th. Disney has absolutely no value rooms available, so we had to find something somewhere. We got rooms for $40 each. And all we need is a clean, safe place to sleep that night. :thumbsup2

I am in Orlando now, staying at Windsor Hills. The Ramada right on the corner of Old Lake Wilson and the 192 is showing $39.95 Sun-Thurs, and $49.95 on Fri & Sat. There is also a Ramada Plaza hotel across the street that is currently advertising $49. per night.

Before making a reservation at a hotel/motel, I ALWAYS check with Tripadvisor.com for reviews. I have had much success in finding decent accommodations at a good price based on the recommendations offered at TripAdvisor.

Here are the TripAdvisor reviews for the Masters Inn:

Are you flying? Do you need a rental car? You might price a Disney value. Included airport transfers will offset some of the offsite savings.
