I live for this time of year!! These are the Best Picture noms:

  • Avatar
  • The Blind Side
  • District 9
  • An Education
  • The Hurt Locker
  • Inglorious Basterds
  • Precious
  • A Serious Man
  • Up
  • Up in the Air

The only one I haven't seen is A Serious Man but it's next up on my Blockbuster queue.

My favorite was Precious and I really liked The Hurt Locker.

I really liked Avatar and Up, but my personal preference is that the best picture winner needs to be the best in every way.... including the acting. Neither of them would be my choice for that reason. And I thought the story was weak in Avatar.

Really liked The Blind Side and Inglorious... the latter a lot more than I expected to. District 9 was okay.

The two that confound me are An Education and Up in the Air. I've been complaining about An Education for months now because I thought it was so bad. Up in the Air wasn't bad... but it wasn't that good, either. I can't for the life of me figure out why it got such rave reviews. The ending surprised me, but that doesn't make up for 100 minutes of mediocrity!!

So... talk to me :goodvibes

What is your choice? I'm pulling for Precious but I think The Hurt Locker is going to take it... I'm okay with that.

I think it will win everything it's nominated for... except best picture. Should be interesting!!

We never go to movies any more, I haven't seen a single one of them. :lmao:

The Hurt Locker
Avatar
Inglorious Basterds

These are the three that have a chance at winning it. Precious peaked too early and doesn't have the buzz as the others. I really think it is Avatar vs. The Hurt Locker. Big Money vs Indy. With IB as really the dark horse. But if Tarantino couldn't win it for Pulp Fiction, he can't win it here.

There is no doubt in my mind James Cameron will win again for Best Director. It is a cinematic masterpiece....however I won't say the acting is weak but the story has been done many many times over and in different ways.

Inglorious *******s will win Best Picture.

Monique' will win for her role in Precious

Sandra Bullock will win for Blindside

Jeff Bridges will win for Crazy Horse

I don't expect Precious to win... but it's what I'm pulling for. I thought it was fantastic, and it stayed with me after I watched it. Sort of like Slumdog did last year.

I will be truly shocked to see Avatar win. I honestly think the battle is between The Hurt Locker and Inglorious.

I'd vote for The Hurt Locker and Inglorious Basterds.

I haven't seen Crazy Heart yet but the whole thing reminds me a lot of Mickey Rourke's role last year in The Wrestler. This might be the category that surprises people and I am going to say that Morgan Freeman might walk away with it.

The fact that George Clooney is even nominated in this category makes me question the sanity of those voting. I didn't find it to be a powerful performance. I don't think Vera Farmiga should have been nominated either.

As for the acting in Avatar, it's hard for me to even call it acting. It was a great movie, but there is a reason it wasn't nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award.

Avatar
Up
District 9

Only one's I've seen and all FANTASTIC films.

I've now seen them all and this is how I would rank them if I was a voting member of the Academy:

1. Precious
2. The Hurt Locker
3. Inglorious Basterds
4. The Blind Side
5. Avatar
6. Up (kind of deceptive, because I loved the movie. But I'm not a fan of animated movies winning Best Picture)
7. District 9
8. Up in the Air
9. A Serious Man
10. An Education (and this is only ranked tenth because there were only ten nominees... one of the worst movies I've EVER seen)

Just an aside... A Serious Man had the worst movie ending ever. Seriously.

I really think The Hurt Locker will win. It was a very good movie and has won alot of other awards this past awards season

District 9? Seriously? Ugh. My friend and I watched it and were disappointed greatly in it. We felt like we had wasted an afternoon. Sigh.

Hated the Hurt Locker, loved Up and Avatar. Rooting for those two tomorrow night! Wish I could watch it with the Pixar crew!:thumbsup2

Watching "UP" now and I found it very disturbing and upsetting- I cried through most of it. Now, before you think I'm a crybaby... Before watching this, I was watching the SAW series and that's doesn't bother me at all. I actually laughed during most of the "Final Destination" movies.. But "UP" I found very melacholy and just a bit disturbing.
Of course, I cried at the end of "District 9" but I liked that movie.
I haven't see any of the others. But I'm a huge Taratino fan-so I'm pulling for him.
