So, I was at lunch with some coworkers and my phone lights up with a call from a 407 area code. My excitement level is already high because we leave for Treehouse Villas and Bay Lake Tower 2 bedroom on Saturday. Then to see a 407 area code call excitement and panic levels both go up! I was expecting a "welcome home, anything we can help you with? any questions?" kind of call.

Turns out it was the room assigner over at SSR letting us know that we were getting upgraded from the Treehouse to a 3 bedroom grand villa! I pretty much enthusiastically accepted and thanked them.

So, we get a night in a 3 bedroom at SSR :-D

Wow - that is awesome!! I have never heard of someone getting such an upgrade in advance of checkin. Enjoy!!

That's a nice upgrade but we stayed in a treehouse with the grandkids last year and I know they would have been disappointed to not have stayed there.

Yep, that was close to my first thought, too. A room swap, yes, -- but 'upgrade' lies in the eye of the beholder. On the bright side, the master bedroom now gets a King bed (yeah) and you gain two extra bathrooms. On the other hand, the bedrooms are now on different levels; the master bathroom is a serious downgrade; you lose all theming and likely won't have a decent patio.

Oh well -- there remains, I hope, opportunity for the OP to experience a Treehouse in future trips!

I am so happy for you. We have stayed in one and two level GV's (OKW, BLT and BWV). We also had a studio on those visits. We preferred the one level GV but the grandchildren (8 of them) preferred the 2 level....more places to hide (or so they thought) for hide and seek.

Alright, who are you really?! Is your name Disney? Are you a major shareholder? Is Bob Iger your neighbor? Did you buy enough points to get a week in a Poly bungalow? C'mon, fess up. It has to be something like that to get that kind of royal upgrade.

Congrats, and if you have not done a GV before be aware that it is better than anyone may tell you, and the biggest downside is having to go back to reality for your next trip and reserve a smaller room.

My name is not Disney. I don't own any shares of Disney. Bog Iger is not my neighbor. I REALLY WISH I could buy enough points to get a week in a Poly Bungalow. I think it's pretty much because of how awesome, amazing, and humble I am. I am pretty much the best! So, obviously, they would fall over themselves to give me an upgrade!

hehe. All kidding aside, I am super stoked!

This is true too! I told everyone that is staying with me (total of 8 people, 7 adults and a 5 year old) and 2 of them were upset that we weren't going to be in the Treehouse. However, an equal number of them were excited that everyone was going to have a real bed and not have to sleep in sofa beds. Also since I am doing this entirely with my DVC, I am pretty much in charge of where we sleep. And I wanted that upgrade!! Since they aren't paying me for the reservation, they can just deal with it. hehe.

My main consideration was transportation really. We are only in the Treehouse/Grand Villa one night before we move over to a 2 bedroom at BLT. So having to deal with transferring buses and what not while trying to coordinate moving all of our stuff, getting checked-out and checked-in was the real bonus for me. Plus being in the room for just one night, and the night being a long one, I didn't see us actually being in the room much at all.

I do want to check out the THVs for sure! They look awesome. But i'd like to do it as a multi-night trip where we can enjoy the room more.

Have a grand time! Enjoy the extra bathrooms and the better sleeping configuration for your travel bunch! Yep, there always another time to do the Treehouses with a longer, slower, more intentional stay. HAVE FUN!

SMALL thing on the upgrade: check your account and make sure they don't dock you the points for the grand villa. That's been known to happen. Just a heads up. Other than that, enjoy!

Personally, I would take the GV over the treehouse any day! Congratulations!

Bobbi:)
