I just ordered my DD one from LLBean, they have special smaller ones for younger kids, I believe (my DD will be 11). Not cheap, but they are very well made, two of my older kids have backpacks made by them that have lasted YEARS.

I think if you go w/Lands End or LL Bean you'll find that those bags will last you a lot longer than one year. So even if you are cheap/frugal, you can rest assured knowing you'll get your money's worth. We just ordered from LL Bean (not the rolling kind, I can just see my boys running over people with those! ) and are thrilled with the quality. The Lands End we had was still in great shape, but my son had outgrown it.
