We are planning our first trip to Disney in October. It is just four short days. The recent bad weather has got me thinking. If there is a day of rain, which park is best to go to. Please also share what your favorite activities at the park are during the rain. I'm really hoping this advice won't be needed, but just in case.

Thanks,

Providing it's not lightening or severe storms, the parks can be FUN during the rain. They tend to be rather quiet and many rides have little waits. I have been at all but AK during the rain, and my favorite was MK. We had a blast the last time. Don't let the rain spoil things, go w/ the flow and see it's advantages.

If you really hate being out in the rain, like my DH, the best park is probably Epcot because everything is indoors. You just have to go out in the rain to get from one building to the other.

MGM would be my second choice, followed by MK.

The main problem with MK is that some of the rides are outside uncovered (big thunder mtn, splash mtn, dumbo, aladdin, jungle cruise, etc.) If these are important to you, MK might be best saved of a non-rainy day.

If wearing a ponch and getting a little wet does not bother you, go to your favorite park. I agree with kilee. The lines will be much shorter for the most popular rides and most if not all of the attractions will be open.

AK is the most difficult park to find a place to get out of the rain.

Tell you what, some of the best times we've had at WDW have been on rainy days in the parks, for a few reasons. Usually the rain keeps the crowds a little lower and usually keeps the temperatures a little lower as well. I agree with the kilee about the lines for the attractions, they do shrink when wet! lol

As for the "best" park in the rain, I would believe its Epcot (our favorite anyway). Most everything at Epcot is covered and walking between attractions is very easy, if you sort of go in order.

Bottom line is pack rain gear, including footwear that you can get soaked in, i.e. sandals, and go out there and have a magical rainy day.

How about another thread, best resort pools in the rain? lol

Have fun!!

If it is not t & L the best park is Blizzard Beach. We went in Oct a few years ago when it was lightly raining all day. Hardly anyone was there and it was great! Your getting wet anyway.

I would say, because of the number of indoor attractions, Disney MGM Studios would be the best.
ADP :D

I would suggest MGM since almost everything is undercover...UNLESS that dang Honey I shrunk the kids playground is important to you - it closes in the rain. My DS is still bumming that he missed that playground.

We were at Epcot during a downpour. I think the front of the park would be ok but world showcase is kind of a bummer in the rain - you can dash from store to store but you really miss out on the ambiance of the countries.

Hands down I think Epcot is best in the rain, minus WS. AK is horrible in the rain. There is really no where to cover and they will cancel some of their shows as it effects the animals. (Birds of Wonder, Pocahontas come to mind) Our whole family was at AK when a morning storm rolled in, it was a night mare. We got really soaked and right after it quit we had to leave.

Hopefully, by October you won't have to worry about this!

My favorite park in the rain is definitely AK. I don't like going in and out of rides/attractions when it's raining because I'm wet and it's usually freezing inside. If you can stand to be outside in the rain, the animals at AK are much more active and fun to watch. Some of the best safaris I have ever been on there have been in the rain. The animals are out moving around and the driver generally has to go slower because of the rain. I think because so much of the park is outside, people avoid it in the rain as well, so you'll practically have the place to yourself!

Have a great trip!

Could someone post this as a Poll? I can't figure out how to it! thanks.

I dont think it ever rains in Animal Kingdom. In matter of fact, while the rest of the parks are getting pounded with rain - I bet AK is still 108 degrees like it always is! Its a conspiracy I tell ya!

This is a tough one. My first instinct was to say Epcot, b/c a lot of the pavilions can keep you occupied for a long time. This is true, and can be good for fairly short cloudbursts. However, the poster who noted that WS isn't as good in the rain is right. So maybe MGM. It isn't nearly as pretty a park (IMHO), so you don't miss as much of the ambience by running from cover to cover. And most everything is inside, including RnRC and TOT. With the shorter lines, you could ride those 2 great rides to your hearts content! I've never been to AK in the rain, and MK was ok but has a lot of outdoor rides. The lines were short, though.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I love this site.

And I just learned how to do this!
