Hi everyone, This is my first post. :) We are leaving for DW tomorrow. We will be there from Mon-Sat (03/07 - 03/12). It is our first trip to DW.

We do have a severely disabled daughter and the forecast is calling for t-storms on Tuesday. What park would be the best to visit this day? We do have a rain cape to cover her and her wheelchair, but I do not want her out in the rain all day. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

:earsgirl:

We were at the Magic Kingdom in the rain in January. It was a light rain ALL day but no too bad as most lines and attractions are sheltered. We just got wet going from one to another (short trips). It was a bit damp and chilly so the jackets and hats were necessary. Also bring a change of clothing in case someone steps in a puddle. Happened to my son and he was not too happy after that (not to warm either). :umbrella:

Epcot and MGM I believe have longer walking distances between attractions and more to see outside rather than in. Although Epcot has lots of indoor extras so that could be good too. But I think Epcots "countries" would be miserable in steady rain.

Remember too that rainy could just mean a few brief showers. I read that it very rarely rains all day - funny, it did when we were there though. :confused3 Good luck!

Have a great time! I wish we werre there already. :earsboy:

In Florida, usually the rain doesn't last all day long which is a break! MGM has a lot of indoor rides so that would probably be a good park- but it might be the most crowded because of that reason. Good Luck, and have a fun trip!

It really depends on the amount of rain. Heavy rain, probably Magic Kingdom, only Dumbo, Astro Orbitor, Tomorrowland Race Way, and a few other rides aren't covered. Tea Cups even haa a roof over it. Plus, the stores on Main Street are connected for the most part. Easy escape route if it gets too bad (but it gets SOOO crowded in these stores when it rains). It's it moderate rain, I would say hit MGM because even though there is a distance between rides, they're all inside I would say, if it's light light rain, you could do EPCOT, but it's so spread out that it's almost impossible to walk around without being in the rain for at least 3-5 minutes (closest rides I can think of that will be open when you go is Imagination and Honey I Shrunk The Audience).
What ever you do though, make sure you hit any open rides before the rain starts (no matter which park you're in). Because they will close them down if it gets bad enough (not too often though from my experiences)

Anyway, have fun! We're leaving to go down on the 12th :cool1:

I think this is one where different people have different opinions.
I can see points for each one; our personal favorite park for rain is actually Epcot.
Even though it can be quite a distance between things, there are a lot more places where you can go in and spend a lot of time on your own schedule (like the shops in WS, The Land, Imagination, Living Seas, the shops when you leave rides, etc.)
At MK, most of the queues are covered, but the rides are short and once you are finished riding, you mostly have to go out in the rain to get to the next place (although they aer close). MGM has mostly covered queues and long shows (so you are in out of the rain for a long time). But, for a lot of shows, you will be leaving a theater at the same time with a theater full of people - all looking to stay out of the rain.
At Epcot, for the things that you do on your own schedule, you can leave when the rain is lighter. For MGM and MK, your show might be released in pouring rain - you won't know until you get out.
Where ever you go, have a plan of where you are going next and keep the map handy so you know how to get there quickly as you can.

As has been pointed out, you are more likely to run into light rain or short periods of heavy rain than a whole day of heavy rain.

One thing to be aware of with a wheelchair if you haven't used a rain cover much. Look out for puddles - if it's raining hard, puddles form rapidly and some are quite deep. You might get some splash from the wheels on the bottom of the inside of the rain cover. Not a big problem, but something to be aware of while you are taking the rain cover off. (I found out because I couldn't figure out how DD got wet when I was being careful to keep the outside of the poncho away from her when I removed it from her wheelchair.)
Also, we carried a plastic bag to fold the poncho for the time in between rain showers.

Hi!

As long as you stay away from AK (lots of walking around outdoors and tons of outdoor rides), you should be fine. I would go for MGM, since most of the rides are indoors. Or you could brave the other parks and benefit from the shorter lines! Good luck! :wave2:

Now see I did AK in a rainy morning and loved it :rotfl: . Did the Safari, which was under cover of the tarps, it was great. Then did Dinosaur (inside), did the Jungle trek, and I was fine with it. Did Kali (we were going to get wet anyway :flower: ) There are also several shows Bug/Tarzan which would also keep you dry for a while. :umbrella:
Also did some shopping...we had a great time, sun came out at about 1 and we were able to dry off.

i would think either MK or MGM would be best in the rain. so much of Animal Kingdom is outdoors, same with Epcot's world showcase - have done that many times in the rain and it is NOT FUN, it being my favorite part of any park. Also Test Track is very tempermental and is often shut down if it's raining.
I once spent a rainy day at MGM and it was a lot of fun. most everything there is indoors.
