Best Online Savings Accounts- Like ING

I need a recommendation.

My kids and I all have savings accounts with ING. It is perfect for us. HOWEVER... we are using those accounts for one longer term goal that we are saving up for.

I actually want to set up another, separate account.. exactly like it- somewhere else- for them. They are on a savings roll and they want to save up for 2 different things and keep the money separate. I don't like them to see what is in their ING savings account too often (they are young) so they are not tempted to spend it. lol

This is intended to have a little less money- they can login often and 'watch it' and see their money earning interest... using it as a teaching tool (about savings accounts) plus have it be a 'shorter' savings so they can save up to actually purchase something every once in awhile- that they've saved up for. I don't want them touching the ING account. lol

The ING account is perfect though. When they do something for me that I want to give them $ for- I just login and transfer SO EASILY. Love it. I'd love to find another one- exactly like ING- exactly as easy as it in every way.

I know you can open student accounts in paypal under your account, but I really don't want it to be paypal. I sell on ebay and I try to keep my paypal balance at $0 because of all the silly 'ebay transactions gone wrong.' I want something as easy to setup and use as paypal--- but I'm not comfortable with paypal.

I'd prefer something exactly like our ING accounts. Anything else out there that you just love and adore that you can recommend for me?

TIA!

I'd suggest a credit union account as a good way to go. Their deposit rates are better than big banks. I belong to Alliant Credit Union, and their checking and savings accounts APR is about 1.35%. You can join the National PTA for a couple dollars to buy your way in.

If you're looking for an easy signup, then the American Express personal savings account resembles ING. It's paying out at 1.3% currently.

Just a couple thoughts...

We use ING and Emigrant Direct right now (why we have two savings accounts... chalk it up to an over-obsessive dh who likes to complicate matters from time to time). We've never had any problems with either, and both are pretty high yield savings though high yield isn't exactly high these days :sad2: I remember when it used to be 3% at ING and elsewhere...

For an alternate savings account, we have been using smartypig.com, right now they are at 1.75. I use it for small savings goals. You can have one account split into goals. Right now I have "New Stove", "Vacation Fund", "A Kindle for Mom" and "Spring Landscaping". I have had no problems getting my money back.

I was going to suggest Smary Pig also. They have a feature where friends and relatives can add to the goals, so that could be nice for gifts. And if you "cash out" into a retailer's gift card you can get a bonus.

Another recommendation for SmartyPig.com! Great for kids to create smaller goals to make purchases and fun for the grown-ups to help them reach their goals by 'donating' to specific goals of theirs.
