We are staying onside at Animal Kingdom Lodge October 10-15. But looking for lodging options for the night of the 8th (could arrive as late as midnight) and check out the morning of the 10th, so two nights. Would love something clean and safe, and looking to keep the costs as low as we can (aka, not looking for luxury - just a good place to sleep). Would prefer to stay as close to Disney property as we can, but would consider most anything.

Red Lion Maingate on Irlo Bronson. We've stayed there several times since October. Recently renovated, clean, friendly staff, convenient to WDW. It's a basic hotel at a reasonable price.

Check out new hotels at western entrance - SpringHill Suites or TownePlace Suites at
Flamingo Crossing.

Budget is subjective but we like the B Resort Downtown Disney. Look at Mousesavers.com for possible savings.

Would depend on what your budget is..

For our honeymoon trip, we needed an overnight stay on a Saturday night off-site. I booked a room about a week before our trip at Westgate Blue Tree resort through Orbitz (I've used them countless times.) I spent $63 for a king one bedroom suite, but when we checked in we had been upgraded to a huge 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen, balcony, and 2 bathrooms. It's a resort so there were so many activities offered like basketball, swimming, tennis, free popcorn. Everyone was super friendly around the resort. I don't know the size of your family, but even if you skip the amenities like we did it's still a very nice and comfortable place for one night. It's pretty close to Disney Springs. I'd definitely stay there again even if I hadn't gotten it for so cheap.

Embassy Suites LBV. There are two about a 1-2 miles from the entrance to Disney Springs. If you are a Hilton Honors member I have gotten some great rates. Recently snagged $89 for the Hilton at LBV. The Doubletree on Hotel Plaza Blvd had a similar rate on Expedia.

We like the Buena Vista Suites. Get a two room suite that will sleep 6 and a free hot breakfast. Check mousesavers for better rates, but we usually pay about $100 a night.
