Does anyone have suggestions for off-site dining? Which is your favorite? TIA

I have 4...

1. Mimi's.. its so close to park and I love the food
2. Joe's Crab Shack
3. Cheesecake Factory
4. PF Changs...both CF and PFC are at the gardenwalk

At the garden walk I also like Califormia Pizza Kitchen. Service is so so but the BBQ Chicken Pizza or Thai Pizza are great as are other things...

My top favorites in no particular order are

1. Mimi's (Mmmmm their honey bran muffins are to die for)
2. Cheesecake Factory
3. Bubba Gumps
4. Joes Crab Shack
5. The Rain Forest Cafe

I was thinking about going to the Cheesecake Factory next week when we are at DL, and coincidentally today my son went to the one near where we live and brought home a piece of original cheesecake. He used my money and didn't even bring me a piece! :confused3 Anyway, if you have never been, you would be hard pressed tro find better cheesecake anywhere. They also have good "regular" food.

Those are all chain restaurants and we don't do chain restaurants - are there any good local restaurants nearby?

We used to go to Belisles years ago because they were friends of the family, but it's long gone.

Millie's! I can't believe no one has said this! It's right near McDonald's and Mimi's. It's like a Denny's or an IHOP. But it's got Disney stuff all around and a little gift shop. It's one of my favorites!

I enjoy Millie's too. It's sort of a chain, but just a few restaurants. We used to have one up here but it closed. I love their tortilla soup.

I do too! It's amazing. Their breakfast is amazing too. My FAVORITE breakfast though is in the Disneyland Hotel. Goofy's Kitchen!

I kind of feel the same. We have all those chains at home and never go to them. I guess I'm feeling like if I'm going to spend money to eat out anyway, i might as well eat Disney food, which is at least a bit unique.

granted but there are more "chain" restaurants around than not unless you want to drive a ways ...and OP said they were looking for offsite restaurants and I didnt think they were inquiring about restaurants on disney property...so if you are looking for non chain restaurants I have a couple

Original Pancake House
http://www.originalpancakehouse.com/

Cortina's Italian Market...they have a market next door to the restaurant
http://www.cortinasitalianfood.com/

and if you're into sushi..
http://www.kagura-sushi.com/

i haven't really found a lot of great food in orange county. i'm mostly dedicated to disneyland so it is much harder to explore when i'm so focused on getting in my disney fix. lol

I do not eat at a non-chain restaurant that I know nothing about -- too easy to get food poisoning. You can't know what kind of quality control they have or if they are clean.
I know lots of folks loved Belisles but I am glad it's gone. My husband always wanted to eat there but I found it disgusting.
To the OP, your best bet would be to ask the locals where the good restaurants are.

Original Pancake house is still a chain

Wow-not eating at nonchain restaurants because of food poisoning????? You're missing a lot of great food!

We avoid chain restaurants too-we find them to generally be mediocre and overpriced. I've been researching this a bit, and have been comparing the restaurants on restaurant.com (because I'm looking for great deals) with Yelp reviews. I suggest trying Yelp-especially if you have a car and can get away from the immediate park area.

We are definitely planning a trip to Farrell's :).

We ate at Bumba Gumps last summer and really liked it. The food was good and the service was beyond excellent. And my boys got their seafood fix.

We don't judge a restaurant by it's a chain or not a chain. We eat at places we can't go to at home. We have no Bubba Gumps around here which is why we decided to try it and we may go back this trip too. Of course, there are so many new places in DLR we have to try this trip, so we may not get to it. I'm still hoping Earl of Sandwhich opens up soon! :goodvibes
