Best Months for Cruising ?

You raise a good point. How cold is too cold? Just depends on the individual. The record cold water temperature at Castaway Cay is 73 degrees. Is that too cold? My gym keeps it's outdoor pool at 70 degrees in the winter, and I swim year round, so for me, the water at Castaway Cay will always be warm enough for me to swim. Now, we were there on January 2, and the air temperature was 75 and the water 74, so it felt cool when you were wet getting out of the water. But the water was nice and warm.
We are from Texas and have our own pool we do not even get in it until the water temp is above 84 and the outside temp is greater than 90..

Wow. In northeast Ohio, we would never be able to jump in the pool; Even in July and August. :rotfl2:

Yep. Probably just personal preference. I live in Georgia. Water at castaway that I deem too cold probably feels great to someone from Canada.

New Yorker here - we've done our cruises solely in Jan-March to get away from cold weather. It's never been too cold for us, even on a Bahamas itinerary. It's a nice reprieve from usually-freezing weather, especially if you do a Caribbean tour. Really depends on your POV/where you're from. I love winter cruising!

I live in California. People with unheated swimming pools open their pools for the season here when the water temperature hits 68.

LOL. I had a hot tub and I kept it at 85. I worked graveyard shift for 25 years and used to sit in the hot tub at 730 am with a glass of wine when it was 32 degrees out. Drove my neighbors nuts, they're eating breakfast and getting ready for work and school and plumes of steam were coming over our common fence from my spa!

It depends. If you have kids in school and they can’t miss school then you are stuck to traditional times when school is closed and those are the busiest and most expensive times to usually cruise!

If you can go outside of school breaks then you have a lot more options.

Price point wise generally speaking mid Jan to late Feb is good as is late April and early May and then again in Sept and Oct usually can get some great deals.

From a weather standpoint if leaving out of Florida remember that peak hurricane season is usually August to Nov 1, so best to get some good insurance if going then. Water temps cool down in Nov, Dec and Jan for Castaway Cay but would be fine if you went further south or east or either the Western or Eastern Carib sailing out of Canaveral. Air temps are generally over 70 unless you get a real cold snap.

I would say whenever you can make it work with work and school schedules and finances will always be the best time to go and enjoy!
