Best mobile hotspot for the price?

I have a chance to do some remote work (extend my time in Florida) this winter. I'm assuming that the Disney WiFi at the resorts would not be speedy enough to effectively work remotely. Is there something I could do to boost the Disney WiFi?

What about a mobile hotspot? Any recommendations for a budget friendly yet fast one?

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

If you are off peak times (peak is lunch and dinner times) the WiFi is not too bad. Probably faster then a 3G connection. If you have a descent cell phone you can get a tether app for your cell phone and share that connection. As long as you are not pulling a ton of data though it your cell provider will not complain. Walmart has a couple descent plans with no contract so you can cancel the plan when you don't need it anymore.

Picked this one up before I went on vacation, this summer -- worked GREAT, and as it works everywhere Sprint has towers, you should have no problems at WDW with it...

Virgin Mobile is who we use. We have had it for 2 years DH uses it all the time and we take to Disney with us. He used it this past weekend to help his company out with an issue while we were at Disney.

It is much faster than the wifi at the Wilderness and SSR.

I bought a Verizon 4G Jet Pack MiFi for $100. The price has since dropped to $75. No contract. I can buy a week of data for $15, 250 mb, 3 GB good for a month for $60 or 10 GB good for a month for $90.
It can sit unused for months and months at no cost, then I can buy time again when I need it.

I am assuming you don't have a smartphone, since most now include Hot Spot capabiity. There is no additional cost to use it on your phone, but it will use up your phone data for that month.

We have Hot Spot on our phone to tether with so it just comes out of our mobile plan. The biggest thing is to remember to turn it off when not in use. If you have that ability it might be worth just increasing your data plan for a month.

This is what I have for when I am in the US. the one I have can tether upto 5 devices to it; the current model sold at walmart can tether upto 10.

It gets 4G LTE speeds. I was very happy with it last year at WDW and also last year in TX.

AT&T now has a similar hotspot and packages (they did not have one when I bought my Verizon one) (prices are a little different, but close). I have seen it in walmart as well. If I was buying one now I'm not sure which of the two I would get.

OP here...

I do have a smartphone but am worried about how much data tethering will use. It's an AT&T phone (I used to have Verizon) .

We used ours for a week long vacation to Texas and Phoenix for Spring training. Skyped an entire spring training baseball game to our daughter who was going to school in England.......used the dickens out of it, just barely used 1GB in the month.

I just ordered from Freedom Pop . The mifi device was 24.99 inclusive of shipping. The plan I selected is 11.00 for 3 months and includes 500 MB of Data. Prices are a little confusing . The eleven dollars is payment for all three months of service and one is allowed to use 500 MB of data per month. Top off's to the account are allowed. There is a free data plan available and there is a way for members to share their data with each other or to earn data credits through affiliate marketing opportunities etc. online.

You are allowed to upgrade and / or downgrade plans each month with no contract. It uses the SPRINT NETWORK.

It was very easy to install and tech support has been excellent.

I learned about it from SLICKDEALS.NET and that site can be googled to find the rep if anyone is interested in this.

If you order it , remember to turn off the automatic top off feature . If one runs over data , one will be charged 10.00 for a top off fee.
I turned it off and it defaults to a 1.99 charge if I should need to run over. One is only allowed a couple top offs per month. Also, if one wants to convert from the 11.00 service 3 months it is necessary to remember to do this PRIOR to the first thirty days of service.

It is clearly a data plan that requires some personal effort and management which may or may not be for everyone.

I'm impressed with its affordability and ease of use.
