I haven't started a thread here yet, but my husband sees me haunting these boards and wants me to ask all you experts: Is there an amazing milkshake in the parks? He doesn't get into the Dole Whips - he is a classic chocolate milkshake guy. (Editing to add: I know where the ice cream places are, but I don't know if there's a clear winner when it comes to shakes.)

Ghirardelli is nice and has different choices. Haagen Dazs in DTD also has good shakes. Not exactly shakes, but the Chocolate Moo'd and the Peanut Butter Moo'd at Jamba Juice in DTD are fun, too.

Ghiradelli has some crazy milkshake thing that has chocolate, banana and salted caramel all blended with ice cream. It was pretty good

I would say BrrrrrBank. But you would need a time machine unfortunately :(

Now I would say the Smores Milkshake at Uva bar in DTD

Thanks everyone! I appreciate it. There are so many good suggestions here that DH will have to spend half the trip with an ice cream headache if he wants to try them all. I can think of worse fates. :)

Any where you go you won't be disappointed but Ghirardelli has the largest selection of milkshakes in the park and is my families go to spot for anything related to ice cream. Their menu of milkshakes is pretty big and changes a fair amount. Also getting a free piece of chocolate every time you walk in the door is not bad either. If you do decide to go to Ghirardelli, be sure to watch the wall behind the counter. Its kind of a city scape of San Francisco and a gold mine. The city scape has an earth quake every couple of minutes and its pretty cool to watch.

I didn't know either of those things! Way cool. Thank you.

The free chocolate is pretty standard procedure in any Ghirardelli. I've been to their original SF location many many times, Monterey(which has an amazing view/patio if you are ever in the area), San Diego, and their main office/plant now south of Sacramento(not even sure what that area is called)

Be aware that Ghiradelli just uses dreyer's ice cream (which has gone downhill over the past 10 years or so.)

According to Ghirardelli, Dreyer's does make their ice cream, but with a recipe specific to Ghirardelli, so it shouldn't be identical to the Dreyer's in the supermarket. Haven't done a scientific test to prove this, but that is what Ghirardelli has stated in the past.
