best loop?

What are your experienced camper opinions on the best loop for the cabins? We will be 2 adults and 3 kids ages 8,3,2. We would love to experience as much as the campgrounds have to offer such as petting zoo, campfire, movie, and EWP. Is everything within a walkable distance from any particular loop? Thanks for any advice to a FW newbie. I can't wait. We leave in 4 days!!!

Fort Wilderness is over a mile from Reception Outpost at the front to the marina/settlement area at the back. In the center is the meadows trading post. All cabin loops are on the reception end of the campground.

Now, with those distances most people don't thing "everything" is within walking distance. But, for most folks the 2100 loop would give a short walk to the Meadows area (bike barn, campfire, trading post & pool). Not too much further down the road is the Marina/Settlement area (marina, trading post, petting zoo, Trails End restaurant, and Crockett's Tavern)

Also, if I remember correctly someone said there was a path between the 2100 loop and one of the adjoining loops (1000 or 1100) which wold cut down the walk a little.

Check it out on the FW map. I have one posted on my site below.

Does anyone else know about this path from the 2100 loop that would cut down on the walk? Would you be able to push a stroller on the path? We're staying in a cabin Sept. 25 - Oct. 2. I've already requested the 2100 or 2500 loop. If there is a path, I'll make sure to request the 2100 loop as my first choice. We don't mind walking so the distance is not an issue to us.

Thanks!!!

It has been my experience that these cabins are not near to the amenities of the campground. We stayed in them many years ago in August. The heat along with the distance to the pool(main pool, near trading post) and two strollers made pushing them anywhere not a viable option. We did wind up renting the golf cart which made a tremendous improvement in our ability to get around the campground without having to wait for a bus. Even to get around the campground.
While I love the FW campground...the cabins are in my opinion in an area by themselves that does not lend itself to the many amenities that the campground offers. While they do have a small pool in one of the cabin loops...it does not offer a life guard..and really isn't much. The areas such as the trading posts and the main pool...or the marina...no way. Maybe a nice leisurely stroll...but if you are really looking to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time...if you don't have bikes..you need the golf cart.
I love FW and can't wait for the day we take our Travel trailer there. Even have my loop picked out ...just think people who have not stayed at the cabins..(and they are great cabins)..should be aware that they are not especially conveniently located and should be aware of that fact.

What type of site do you have reserved?

Preferred - 400, 700 if you have a big rv, 1400 if you want close to the campfire.

Full - 1300, 1000, 1100 or 900

Partial - 1500

Would you say sites on 700 loop are larger than those in the outer 1400 loop(Big Bear)...we have a 28 ft. TT with a slide. and don't want to be cramped..have heard some sites are a little tight. Looking for preferred also...gotta have the cable!

There is a walk in the 2100 loop. We just got back 2 weeks ago and the walk leads to the 1100 CS. You should have no problem with a stroller.:earsboy: :earsgirl:

Just curious as to why you were requesting 2500? We're thinking about staying in the cabins on our next trip, and of course we want to find the best location, too!

plutospup, 2500 looked to be a smaller loop close to the pool and bus stop. That was my reasoning with that loop.
