getting to Captin Cook's in the morning for coffe and getting to the monorail and bus stops. We are early park commandos and would love a long house that is conveinent for early exits to the parks. Any experienced Poly folks have any thoughts?

Raratonga and Nuie are both very, very close to Captain Cooks and the GCH for the monorail. Raratonga is closest to the bus stop.

Rarotonga would probably best fit those requirements.

Another vote for rarotonga--go out one end and you are at GCH, the other end and you are right at the bus stop.
Ask for a room that faces the courtyard area. We had ducks and a great view in room 1812 (3 rooms from the bus stop end; ground floor).

There's a great website which is blocked from these boards. Just do a google about the Polynesian, and you might find it. I hope I don't get into trouble for that...

Ohhhh, Tam1067, you mentioned "He Who Must Not Be Named" and told the OP how to find "He Who Must Not Be Named's" web site. Be prepared for a moderator slap-down!

Happened to me once already and my response to a question from a first-timer about the Polynesian was deleted and a WARNING was issued. Funny thing is the same moderator in his/her response to the OP's question about the Polynesian was essentially, "Oh, I've never stayed there, but I hear it is nice." :rolleyes1 Not quite as helpful as the web site you mentioned!

To this thread's OP, the south end of Fiji is also within steps of the Great Ceremonial House and closest to Captain Cooks. Have a fun trip!:)

We stayed in the east end of Aeortora (sp?) and found it very convenient to Captain Cook's.

Yes, both Aotearoa and Fiji are close to Captain Cook's. But neither are quite as close as Niue and Raratonga. Just pulled out a map and measured. And of course if it happens to be raining.....

Samoa is also close to CCs.

But grumpyharn, Raratonga really fits your desires best. Half of the rooms do face the monorail and parking lot but there is landscaping and a hill in between.

I was gonna say Samoa. We found it quite convenient to walk to Captain Cook's from there. However, we never did walk to the bus stop so I can't speak to that.

We just got back today from the Poly. I miss it already! We stayed in Samoa. It was a great location! To us perfect! Very close to Captain Cooks. Between both pools. Very close to the beach to see fireworks. Close for gettting the monarail. Not too far of a walk even to TTC. We didn't get a bus so I can't say anthing about that. It's a great place! You are going to love it!

Tonga is actually the closest to Captain Cooks (but only if you are booking a suite).

Niue and Raratonga may be closer to a GCH entrance than Fiji and Aotearoa, however you have to walk through the lobby, past the Wyland Gallery and around the corner to get to Captain Cooks. From Fiji's southern end you walk the short boardwalk by the marina, into the GCH and past the arcade to get to Captain Cooks. All of this is just splitting hairs. All of the longhouses mentioned are pretty convenient to the GCH, CC's, and the monorail stop. But if you want to walk to the TTC to get to the EPCOT monorail, then Tahita or Rapa Nui would be better locations in terms of distance to the transportation. Have a fun trip!:)

grannyminnie and dancemomnj, isn't Samoa a wonderful location? We haven't stayed at the Polynesian since CC reopened but the side door used to be about 30 seconds away from the South exit of Samoa...is it still there?

Poly Pal, I agree it is splitting hairs and actually meant to put that in my post. But I am well aware of the walk through the longhouse if you come into the GCH at the Western end of Raratonga. It is still a shorter walk than it is from Fiji. Just check a map.

And yes, if you book a suite you will have the closest rooms of all to GCH. However Raratonga is closer to the bus stop.

grumpyharn, the bus stop is at the Eastern end of Raratonga. Tokelau is also very convenient to the bus stop, has larger rooms and pretty much splits the difference for TTC or GCH transportation. As Poly Pal said, Tahiti and Rapa Nui are the closest of all to the TTC.

I think all longhouses at the Polynesian have advantages...so much so that in 30 stays we've never requested a particular longhouse (although sometimes we've known which one we'll be in anyway).

Great, now I'll have to pack a tape measure!:rotfl2:

We'll be at the Polynesian in just 24 days - look for our orange wristbands!:)

Yes, there were three doors from outside to get into Captain Cooks. You did not need to enter CGH to enter. There was one on the side and then two more doors from the patio area outside near the pool. It's very close to Samoa.

dancemomnj, thanks. Glad to know that side door is still there. The other doors used to go into the shops. I've peeked into CCs when we've been at the Polynesian to dine at Kona but am loking forward to actually trying it in a few months. My DH did pick up Tonga Toast there in May and we were so happy that it really does taste just like the Tonga Toast from Kona.

Poly Pal, that's right....don't forget a tape measure.:rotfl: 24 days....you are so lucky!:cool1: Which longhouses have you stayed in and which is your favorite?

Maybe I'll pack my tape measure in a pie and try to get it by the TSA!:rotfl:

We've stayed in Aotearoa, Tahiti, Tuvalu, Fiji, Tokelau, and Raratonga. For our upcoming trip to "He Who Must Not Be Named's" festival at the Polynesian we have requested Samoa VP View or Fiji marina view.

Well, better than four and twenty blackbirds I guess.:rotfl2:

Have a great time at the fest.:thumbsup2
