Best lens to bring to the parks

I found the 17-55 to be well balanced in spite of it's weight but surely that's subjective. The 24-105L is only about 25 grams more than the 17-55 but for me the 24-105 always felt like I was toting a brick. Another option might be the Tammy 17-50 f2.8 which IIR will shave several ounces off the Canon 17-55 (although you loose IS). The AF noise on the Tammy can be distracting as well. One good thing about any of these is that used prices have really dropped over the last few years.

I looked at the Tamron before buying the Canon and passed on the noise issue alone.

It's funny though, the 17-55 seemed quite heavy to me since it was my very first 2.8 zoom.

Now that I have a full frame camera and am used to a heavier body and lenses, the 24-105 feels like a lightweight. ;) (Still haven't been able to bring myself to sell the 17-55 though, as I do still have my T2i around. It's just that great of a lens.)
