I am so excited! Me and DH decided to take a spur of the moment trip the WDW next week! When we made this decision it came as a pleasant surprise that we would be there on a MNSSHP night. I have been to WDW many times, but this will be the first hard ticket event for us. I have a canon T3i and have rented the 17-55mm f/2.8 and I have the 50mm f/1.8 as well. Which lens would i have better luck using for the BTY parade as well as Hallowishes? Any other suggestions, helpful hints are greatly appreciated! TIA!

You definitely want to use your fastest lens, which would be your 50 mm.

I have shot the Christmas parade with a 2.8 lens. And you'd do ok with parts of Boo to You with a 2.8 lens. But parts are really too dark for that one. I'd go with the 50mm f/1.8, although that is going to feel pretty tight depending on where you stand. I would find a spot where you could shoot farther down the street. For example, if you are down along the sides of Main Street where you have a long straight stretch, you can shoot the elements that are farther down the way. The ones right in front of you will likely be too close for the 50mm.

Don't be afraid to bump he ISO to 3200 on that camera. With a little post processing noise reduction, you will be fine. If you want to see the MVMCP photos I took with my T2i and my 17-55 f/2.8 lens, check the link in my signature to my 2011 trip report.

Have a great time!

WOW! You have some awesome pics! Nice job! Love the ones of the castle especially. Thanks for the advice. I have to keep telling myself I can't have every lens even though I'd like to ... If you don't mind my asking what lens did you use for the castle shots at night? I didn't see where I could see the photo info for each shot. Thanks!

Thanks! My main lens (including my castle shots) is the Canon 17-55 f/2.8. It's on my camera 90% of the time. That trip I did use my Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 for the Christmas parade though.

If there's a photo you want to EXIF data on just click on it. That will take you to the photo on Flickr. Under the actions drop down menu there's an option for viewing the settings.
