We have five kids, none of which I would say are big eaters (and no teenagers yet). Because of this we typically share meals at restaurants otherwise we wind up with a ridiculous of food wasted. The kids range in age from 4-13, with the older two liking more adult food (as well as kids stuff) like steak and chicken etc., but none of the kids are particularly adventurous eaters. DH and I usually share an appy and main when we go out. The last few times we have gone out locally we have ordered a few appys, and main dishes and just shared them among the table and it has worked out really well-less wasted food and wasted $$. Any suggestions on where shared menus work well? I would imagine Via Napoli, but do other come to mind? I don't mind ordering the kids each their own meal, but throwing out food drives me crazy, especially when it can be half of five kids meals. It isn't so much about the $ (though of course that is always a factor) but rather the waste-we can pay the same $$ for sharing meals at a nicer restaurant than getting everyone their own and having to chuck stuff out. In addition, it is sometimes tough to get a table for 7 so suggestions are most appreciated.

You said your kids aren't particularly adventurous, but I'm going to suggest looking at the menu at Spice Road Table in EP. They have a simple kids menu and a fairly large apps menu and the apps are big! So are the entrees and, based on how I've seen people order in the restaurant (we've been there a few times), they are used to people ordering and sharing meals. It tends to be easier to get a table there as well, even as a walk-up.

In AK, I would suggest Yak & Yeti. Again, the portions are quite big so easily shared. You might consider getting a Landry's Select Card which would be good to use at Yak & Yeti, Rainforest Cafe and TRex. It's Landry's loyalty program and gives you priority seating over guests who have ADR's. You simply show up whenever you want, show them the card and they will seat you at the next available table.

I would also consider some of the resort restaurants (The Wave, Capt. Grille, Trattoria al Forno, Sanaa). I find the quality of food a bit better at the resort restaurants and it tends to be easier to get tables there.

Landry's card is awesome, you pay $25 for it but the $25 comes off at your first visit to one of their restaurants. You always get priority seating and they treat you great. You also get another $25 off in your birthday month.

Consider the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge Resort. There are large family tables available, the menu is varied with kids' choices, and it's a fun place for a family to eat! Be sure and ask for ketchup!
