best inexpensive hotel chains

That's about $100 less than I would expect. We got a room in San Diego in September for $77....but only because we used reward points to get a $100 discount.
You mentioned HIE and not regular Holiday Inn. Is there a difference? The prices I listed are regular HI.

In my experience, the HI express tend to be newer and built with the business traveler in mind. It includes a buffet breakfast. The Holiday Inns tend to be older, and have a restaurant on site.

In a case like this if you are looking for the cheapest hotel your best bet will be to find the newest ones... This will not guarantee anything but fairly clean which to me trumps all when I am just looking to sleep for 8 hours....

I checked, for the Holiday Inn just west of Disneyland for 2 adults, it is $93. For the Holiday Inn Express just east of Disneyland, same dates, it is $109 a night. So basically your "free" breakfast costs you $6 a person.

We are trying the Hilton Honors program this year, but so far have preferred the program (Club Carlson) Country Inn and Suites offers with their credit card. Almost always a free upgrade (depending how full they are), plus a free goodie bag (some much better than others). The points add up faster than most cards, it has an annual fee of $75 but when that is paid you are awarded 40,000 points which is sometimes good for two free nights. Club Carlson includes Radisson hotels and others.

Hampton inn, holiday Inn Express are usually near the exits, easy on/off and have had good experiences at both. I prefer Any motel near a Cracker Barrel lol, that's usually where we ll exit then choose which one looks best from outside and I walk in n get rate!
( clearly don't try that during the snowbird travel period... Been there done that and Everything was so booked out :(. )

I just got back from a two week road trip to California, around some national parks in the area and back. I used hotel apps instead of going with chains. The chains would advertise on Kayak, Trivago and Trip advisor at about $30 more than a locally owned, highly reviewed, option. One thing I noticed is the later in the day you check prices, the higher those prices would get. However, chains were generally more expensive than local options with the same amenities. We found lots of competative offers through Trip Advisor. If you have a reward program through a particular chain, you may save by using it. I belong to many of those reward programs and still find locally owned options to be be a better value.

Marriott chain
1. Spring Hill Suites
2. Residence Inn
3. Fairfield inn
HIlton chain
4. Hampton inn

5. Holiday inn express

All of these offer free hot buffet breakfast.

Check the marriott village in Orlando. I believe its on vineland. I've stayed at the fairfield and the spring hill suite there. Around 125 night.
ALso have stayed at the hampton inn convention center and residence inn convention center both on universal blvd. They were alittle higher but had good location by Idrive.

When staying at a marriott or hilton brand hotel they have price guarentees. Book on the hotel website. Then I look on expedia or trip advisor for a cheaper room for the one I just booked. I fillout a claim form on the website and provide the info requested with a link to the "deal" I found. Marriott will price match and give another 25% off. Hiltons chains price match then send you a 50 giftcard upon stay.

I agree with others, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn & Springhill Suite are all great.

One brand I will try to stay away from its Ramada, Travel Lodge or Howard Johnson as my experiences at these places was the property are generally somewhat run down and questionable cleanliness.

I'm looking at Holiday Inns at Orlando and two for $77 and one for $88 doesn't seem to be expensive. I'm used to $120 at a minimum at Anehiem across from the Disneyland enterance, though, so maybe I'm used to getting screwed on motel prices :I
I really wouldn't compare motels in Orlando with those across the street from DL. When you can get to DL with a 5 min walk from your Best Western you can charge really high motel rates. No motel in Orlando will get you to the front gates of WDW or Universal with a five or ten min walk.

Not necessarily. (Somewhat getting off track but this is a good reminder to research the area you're traveling to even a bit.) The Holiday Inn Express is walkable distance from the DL front gate (11 mins on google maps). The HI west of DL is not. I haven't a clue about the breakfast costs but walkability to DL is a big factor in that local area. If you have a car you can get better hotel rates... But you'll have to pay for Disneyland parking at $17/day.

Currently my favorites are Hyatt Place, Sprighill Suites & Residence Inn. And another vote for checking Trip Advisor. While I quite like Hyatt Place the last one I stayed at just wasn't up to the par of the others. While I like the chain, I wouldn't stay at that specific one again.

In the cheap category I found. Hyatt place to be the most consistent. I always check for reviews and go from there.

The Holiday Inn on the west side of Disneyland ( on East Walnut) is exactly 1 mile walking to the park, the Holiday Inn Express is 6/10ths of a mile. I consider both an easy walk. We have stayed as far away as the Hampton Inn on Harbor, and that is 1.4 miles from the park, easy peasy walk.
