Best "In-Character" Stories

My fav. story has to be my 3rd trip to disney, when I was about 12. My brother was 14 and was hitting that age where he was "too cool" to enjoy the characters and things. It was pretty clear that Tigger picked up on it and gave him a very hard time while we were waiting in line for our character breakfast! And also, my parents went for their 25th wedding anniversary and one of my favorite pictures is my Daddy with Minnie at their Character meal....My Daddy is SOOOO not the type so I know Momma had to encourage and I'm sure Minnie had to do some encouraging as well!

We just got back from WDW and my DNiece7's favorite interaction was in Epcot. We had just seen the Nighttastic! Fireworks at Magic Kingdom the night before, and her favorite part was Flora's and Merriweather's "Pink! Blue!" just like in the movie. She met Aurora in front of the France pavilion that next morning. DN was wearing her very favorite tie-dye skirt and matching purple top. She told Aurora how much she loved her dress, and Aurora said "Oh, your outfit is lovely. But I think Flora and Merriweather had a disagreement over the color of your skirt!" DN told her how glad she was that Cindy's Fairy Godmother had been able to get the two to get along last night before they made a mess all over the whole park. It was fabulous!

One night at 1900 Park Fare we asked Cinderella and Prince Charming why the castle is called Cinderella's Castle if it really belonged to the Prince's family. Prince charming said that his father had a great fondness for Cinderella.
We found Prince Charming a little dry and lame, and asked Lady Termaine why she would ever wanted her beautiful daughters to marry him. She shook her head and said that at the time he seemed like a good catch.
It was the best character meal our entire trip and the first meal of our next trip...in 4 sleeps!!!

DS(5) asked Piglet if he wanted some of his bacon at breakfast at Crystal Palace. Piglet covered his mouth and face and just shook his head.

DS(5) asked Crush (at Turtle Talk) if he tasted like chicken. Crush just went quiet and kept swimming back and forth in the tank. finally he swam up to the in-tank microphone and called, "SECURITY!" No flames please, we are originally from the Bahamas where it was legal to catch turtles. This trip hopefully DS (now 7) will ask if Crush tastes better fried or grilled.

When we met Prince Caspian my DS told him his name was Griffin. He started to tell him about the Gryphons in Narnia. He was giving him a very vivid description, but almost came out of character when he mentioned that they could fly. DS6 (at the time) said, "Oh, our Griffin can too! He uses Southwest." Poor Prince Caspian wanted to laugh SO BAD... but somehow he stayed in character and continued talking about Narnia.

The character interaction must have been very important to Walt, because I have vivid memories from when I was 3 interacting with them. Of course, back in the day, you didn't have to wait in a line to see the characters. My brother and I met Mickey as we headed toward the castle right after the park opened. We were able to run to him and get mouse hugs and pictures. He was in his tuxedo and at that moment, I fell in love with WDW. Later in the day, there was a parade, and Minnie came down from her float and gave me a hug (she was my favorite). My brother and I had matching Donald Duck hats. If you're an old time Disney visitor, you may remember these...they had the google eyes and the brim of the hat was Donald's bill, and it had a squeaker. Well, Donald came up to us and squeaked our hats, approving of our hat choice over the Mickey ears. It was such a great memory.

My most recent interaction was last summer when my family, my parents, and my dh's parents were eating breakfast at Tusker House. All the characters had already come around, but we had heard the day before was Donald's birthday. My mil asked the CM if Donald could come back because we wanted to sing to him. The CM, of course, said no. But Donald overheard it, came over, and directed us as we sang "Happy Birthday" to him. He made it clear how pleased he was that we acknowledged him over the mouse

My favourtie has to have been with Ariel in Toontown, just couple of weeks ago. I was a bit sick, and had lsot my voice, so my friend was doing all the talking.

My friend commented that Ariel had legs. Ariel got very excited about this, and hoisted her dress up to show off her legs, and told us that she liked swimming, but was excited about being able to walk and dance. So my friend then also commented on how she had legs AND her voice, and then explained to her that I had lost mine (since I was just standing there).

Ariel immediately turned to me and asked why Ursula had taken my voice. THEN, she noticed that I was wearing an Ursula pin (which I had totally forgotten about) and said something about it being silly to be carrying her around with me since she'd taken my voice. Then, she called over to Cinderella, to let Cinderella know that Ursula had stolen my voice. Cinderella wanted to know what I traded it for, but I couldn't speak and my friend wasn't very creative, so the princesses came to the conclusion that Ursula just took it for no reason, which wasn’t very nice.

It was my friend's first trip, and her first time meeting the princesses, and it was defintely one of my favourite's, despite being sick.

2 of my favorites:
We did the Akershus Princess breakfast when DD was nearly 3 and DS was 4.5. He thought it was ok, but wasn't as thrilled about meeting princesses was as DD was. But the princesses really made a fuss over him and it was so cute - Cinderella called him a "handsome prince", Ariel asked if he was shy and playing hide and seek like Flounder does when he shyed away from her. It was so sweet and he still says, "Do you remember when the princesses talked to me?" He tries to act embarassed but you can tell he loved it!!

Later on during that same trip, DD and I were in a line to meet Jasmine and Aladdin. It wasn't a terribly long line, we were in the middle of maybe 9-10 others. When it was DD's turn, she went up with her autograph book. She also had a little Cinderella purse she had bought on her arm and was wearing a pair of Minnie sunglasses pushed up on her head. Jasmine must have spent 5 full minutes interacting with her - asking what was in her purse and waiting while DD unzipped it and showed her, asking if she could try on her sunglasses and then helping DD get them back on. DD was in heaven!!

I am hoping to have a magical character experience someday! I don't visit the characters as much.

Though I have to ask. What makes for the most magical character experience? I would love to know!

For me it's when the CMs are so unthinkingly sweet to the kids. When my DS 9 was doing the Kim Possible mission, I thanked the CM in England for being so enthusiastic about her role. In character she explained, "everyone has to help if we're going to save the world." How can that not make your day?

A little background first. When we went last August, we had been a little fearful that DD, then a month shy of 3, would be a little hesitant around the characters. On our first day, we went to Mickey's Judge's Tent, and, after a second or two of hesitation, Mickey went down on one knee, held his arms out, and she ran right to him. So, we knew she'd be OK.

The next day, we went to Epcot, and saw Donald by Mexico. We got up and got our pictures, but Donald still seemed to be "talking" to DD. So, he took her by the hand and started to walk away with her, back down the path to the back!. The CM finally had to call him back because other people wanted to meet him, but he was disappointed that he couldn't take her back with him. For all you hear about ornery Donalds, this one was great.

I'm very much looking forward to our 1900 PF reservation in November. My 2 year old nephew, I'm sure, will be flexing for the step-sisters.

Many years ago annual passholders were able to visit a private lounge inside the Land attraction in Epcot. You would take the elevator located right outside the Garden Grill entrance up and I think I remember that it looked down on the restaurant. Anyway, we decided that we would go up and see what it was like. We sat for a couple minutes and enjoyed a soda when two of my son's favorite characters walked in, Chip and Dale. I really don't know how this unfolded but we began playing a impromtu game of charades. It was so much fun. They would act out other Disney characters and we would guess them. They stayed for about 1/2 hour.

My kids are not kiddies any more but young adults and everytime we reminisce about our past trip, this incident comes up as on of our favorite unforgettable moments!

This happened a few years ago when my DDs were 8 and 4. Both DDs were afraid (DD4) or uninterested (DD8) in any characters that weren't princesses. I tried a few times to introduce them to other characters in other parks, and they would both hide behind me. Okay, I figure that while we're in WDW, we'll concentrate on attractions and ignore the non-face characters. For whatever reason, while we were in DHS, my youngest DD suddenly decides she wants to get in line to see Pooh. I asked her if she was sure, 'cause this came right out of left field (Her DSis was "too old" for Winnie the Pooh stories/movies and DD4 had to be like her so this came as a complete surprise). Besides, we were on a tight schedule (you plan followers know what I mean ) and I didn't want to have to wait in a line for what I thought would be a big waste of time. When it was her turn, she immediately ran up to Pooh and gave him a great big hug. I laughed and snapped a picture (see below). After a while, I told my DD that she had to let go so other kids could have a chance to see Pooh. Pooh waved me away and basically pantomimed that there was plenty of time. I waited a bit and again told my DD that she had to stop and again Pooh waved me away. It was at that moment that I realized that WDW was not just another park, and that there was magic here. I relaxed and just decided to enjoy the moment. Imagine that, I learned patience from Pooh!

So we weren't really planning on doing meet and greets with characters on our trip (except for meeting Belle cause I've only waited my whole life to do it)
But as we were walking through Epcot we saw a short line for Jasmine and Aladdin. I looked at DH and go "Wanna meet Aladdin!?!?!" he said "YES!" (way more excitedly than I had even dared to hope) and we jumped in line!

They were so cool! Aladdin asked how we met, we said we were married and then Jasmine asked to see what my prince gave me. I showed her my ring and then she showed Aladdin and said "look what SHE got!" and I was like "yeah Aladdin...where's Jasmine's ring???" Aladdin said 'Oh we don't do that in my country" and then Jasmine mutters to me "HE doesn't do that in his country!" LOL!! It was so funny and fun. After that interaction we jumped in line for any character who's line wasn't a mile long (and since we went in early May...we got to meet a LOT of characters with little to no line) SO cool! And meeting Aladdin and Jasmine was probably one of our favorite memories from the whole trip.

Aww... I love these stories.

My favorite interaction actually started with a CM working at Pirates in the MK. This was back in August of 2006. DD was 5.

DD was very taken with the parrot that was outside of the ride. She would talk with the parrot but... she would not go on the ride.

A cm noticed this and came to talk to us. Now as she was talking to us she stayed completely in Pirate Character -afterall she was a pirate.

She talked dd into going on the ride with her. The whole time we walked through the line she talked only with dd and told her all sorts of pirate stories. She did the same thing on the ride.

At the end of the ride I took a photo of dd and pirate Melanie. Well as we wandered through the store Pirate Melanie came back to get us and told us that Captain Jack was about to have a show and would we like to see it. Well she took us out and got us a spot right in the front. We thanked her and said goodbye again.

A moment later Pirate Melanie was back and said the Captain would like a private word with dd. She then took us backstage for a private meet and greet with Captain Jack. It was then that dds love for Capt Jack began.

After the meet and greet Pirate Melanie took dd and I back to our front row spots for the show. Capt Jack then picked dd to be one of the kids in the show.

This has been our favorite character interaction simply because a CM noticed my dd was too nervous to ride POTC.

okay I'm pretty sure this is the best thread ever!

Years ago, but I remember the Tweedles taking my hat and trying to eat it, put it on each other's heads, steal it away from each other, etc. Other people were waiting to meet them but it just went on and on and we were cracking up.

Chip and Dale are always my favorites. My first trip to WDW when I was 16, my parents didn't even want to go to the MK- just studios and Epcot- and they are not disney nuts so there was ZERO character interaction. I didn't even realize that was an option LOL. Well, we were wandering around the studios and out of nowhere comes Chip and Dale, who joked around with us and kept trying to walk off with me. It was so cute and I still think of it every time I see them. Last year, waiting in line to see them at the hub at MK, they got water/bubble guns out of somewhere and were rolling all over the place playing. It was highly entertaining and a great way to end the week

This June both my DS6 and DD4 got to talk with Crush at Turtle Talk. Crush realized they were siblings and asked to talk to the "parental unit." So my conversation with Crush:
Crush--"Dude, how many little ones you have?"

Me--"Two. How about you?"

Crush--" 64!"

Me-- " That would take a big stroller"

Crush-- "I guess, dude, but I don't know what a stroller is cause I, you know, live in the ocean"

He tried to get a response from her by asking what people in her world liked to eat and she replied with, what was apparantly her favorite Disney word and said "Princess" Crush's eyes became HUGE and he said "Can someone tell Snow White to have security escort her out of the park tonight?" We laughed so hard.

Haha that's so cute! I know certain "lines" and "games" are used by the characters quite a bit, but I'm always impressed by how many of them are able to come up with quick in-character replies on the spot

My favorite wasn't actually on Disney property. We were driving down for the 25th anniversary (and the big pink castle!) and stopped at the Florida welcome center. As we were walking towards it our (then) 3 year old DS took off running. We hollered at him to stop, but looked ahead and saw that Mickey was in front of the doors greeting people. Mickey wasn't looking in our direction, but must have heard or been alerted what was going on because he turned toward us and kneeled down just as Mark went barreling into his arms

That was also the year Mark fell in love with Minnie Mouse. He had a hot pink ball cap with Minnie on it. And just hugged her to pieces when he met her at MGM. Remember when they had their little movie star trailers that they would greet people at? Last year (when he was 16) somehow he wound up with us for the day (instead of with his brothers and his friend that he brought along with us). We went to Toontown to see Mickey. When we got in the room Minnie was there too. DH wanted to stand by Minnie (he's got a crush on her too!) but Minnie took Mark's arm. I cropped the rest of us out of it so it's just a picture of Mark & Minnie. One of these days I will get around to framing both pictures together - the 3 year old Mark & the 16 year old Mark with Minnie - the first love of his life!

And one more - we were on Main street in the Expo Hall. DH was looking at camera straps and stuff when someone came up behind him and covered his eyes from behind. The CM with them had to be the voice and say "guess who". DH goes for the obvious and guessed Mickey, then I think he went for Dopey and one more guess before the CM told him that he only gets 3 guesses. The "someone" uncovered his eyes and was stomping his foot and laughing and pointing at DH for not guessing right. It was Pinnochio! His CM only put up with so much of that before leading him off back stage telling him he would never get to be a real boy if he kept laughing at the guests.

We have a lot of good character experiences throughout the years! These are some recent ones that stand out.

One is from our last day this past August with Chip and Dale. Chip was doing funny things like giving DD15 the call me sign and gesturing towards her Minnie ears they where both just acting extremely silly. Then Chip gave DD a huge hug then Dale joined in and brought me with him we where all hugging for a couple of minutes! It was really fun even the people behind us in line where laughing. One of our best character experiences.

Within the next 5mins we went over to goofy he had just got off of the dumbo ride with a little kid. We were the next ones in line when he got off the ride he came over and waved then he started running around fantasy land for couple of minutes he came back gesturing he was out of breath then he gave DD a big hug and the CM asked him if he need his inhaler because he ran so much it was so funny!

Also, on this trip we where eating at crystal palace and piglet came over and my very comical DH said something about piglet being turned into tomorrows ham or bacon or something along those line I don't remember exactly now but it was really funny and piglet started cracking up he actually started laughing we could hear his voice starting to come through even though he was trying to control himself and stay in character.

This story is from ESPN the weekend again with chip and Dale they looked so cute in their uniforms so I sent DD to go take a picture of them. She was the only one in the area and one of them saw her and stopped the other one and they both started doing funny poses! They are so cute. We didn't have our fancy DSLR camera so we were unable to capture a lot of them. They kept doing different poses until the CMs noticed and told them they had to go.

The last I'll share for now is from Cape may breakfast! This is probably the best character breakfast we have ever been to. All the characters went above and beyond they where all so nice and came back numerous times! I thought it was adorable when Minnie gave DS 17 who isn't into characters that much (he still gets his pictures with them though because DD makes him) a big kiss.
