I am going to WDW in September 2011 for the first time(solo) and i have been researching hotels to stay at but i can't find any that i am satisfied with booking yet. Just wondering if anyone who has travelled solo and found a great hotel to stay at for a budget to moderate price range??

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

I was at WDW December 5th - 11th 2010 and stayed at the Coronado Springs. It seemed to have a more adult crowd there. It was my first time and first solo trip and I'm 30 so. Either way you should have a blast.

Have you thought about the Swan/Dolphin?

I love the Epcot area but realistically I know that this time round my budget will not allow me to stay in a 'proper' Disney deluxe (as a solo female I feel safer in a resort under cover, but that's just me), so I've just booked the Swan. It's in the resort area I really love but at a fraction of the price of a Disney deluxe.

I think any Disney resort would be great for solo travelers.

For my May 2009 solo trip, I stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter and I loved it.

When I travel with my kids, we stay at Pop Century. It's our favorite resort.

One thing I would suggest for your solo trip is that you search the DISboards to find other solo travelers who are going to be there when you are there. During my May solo trip I met a lot of great DISers (like ClareH37!)

It was great because I had my solo time and then I was able to connect with people who love Disney as much as I do! Like Hannah Montana says "it was the best of both worlds" :lmao:

Hi Clare!!

Yes, I agree any Disney hotel would be great. Before we joined DVC, I stayed solo at POR (Dixie Landings back then). I think POFQ would be as good, maybe a little better because it's more compact. However, it was DH's favorite (POFQ) and since I always stay there with him, I stayed at POR myself and enjoyed it.

thanks everyone for the advice!!;) i will take all your options on board! Also i was wondering who you booked your hotels through?? Website/travel agent?? So basically where did you get the best deals?

In the budget category, I've stayed at both Pop Century and All Star Music solo. I really preferred AsMu. Much more compact, so I felt more comfortable walking around after dark.

The only moderate I, personally, would stay at solo would be POFQ. IMO, the rest are too spread out. I would not be comfortable walking around after dark. I second the recommendation to look into the Swan and Dolphin and see if you're eligible for any discounts there. That brings them down to a price range similar to the moderates, and their location can't be beat.

Not sure if I'll be much help, but I only stay on-property, so when I am booking a budget hotel that means I'm staying at a Value resort. If you are going that route, you basically pick what Value looks best to you. As far as Moderates go, I personally prefer the POFQ. Besides being the best-themed IMO, it's a very small resort, which means no 20 minute walk to your room from the bus stop, or from your room to the lobby.

So basically where did you get the best deals?

I almost always use DVC or get an AP discount, but I have seen some good deals on Disney's site before. Try: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/

I have stayed a number of places solo on property in all categories. While my DVC home resort is a favorite. For values I like Pop over the All Stars (mostly because there always seems to be some cheerleading, football, basketball, dance ... well you get the idea - event which tends to book large blocks of the All Star rooms). Swan / Dolphin is a great alternative if you can get it in the moderate price point. For Moderate resorts, my favorite is Corronado Springs - near the quiet pool and gym (not necessarily a pool view). Port Orleans or French Quarter are also nice. I'm not a big Caribbean Beach fan, for some reason it seems more spread out but if you are closer to food court perhaps not -- but their quiet pools are great for lap swimming.

I have found deals through internet, directly with Disney. Since I have an Annual Pass booking through a travel agent really does not help me all that much as I don't need a package with tickets or dining plan.

i stayed solo at POP and it was ok. A bit noisy and the beds aren't my style but otherwise ok. It is well lit and I was close to the main building which minimized walking times. Check and see if there is free dining or a room discount at that time. I booked room only and stayed at POP for 57 a night pre-tax. Since I used the airport shuttle and buses to parks I felt it was a good value for me.

Good luck and have a great solo time!!!

I just booked my first solo trip and chose POP. I considered POFQ for a more adult feel, and the boat to DTD. But, I ultimately went with our family trips favorite because I know it like the back of my hand and I'd feel safe and comfortable going with what I know best!

Great choice!! I keep telling myself that I am going to try another resort but I always come back to Pop

I've stayed at quite a few solo, and I think moderate is probably the way to go. For the values, I stayed at ASMu twice in the Broadway section, and thought it was great. On a recent trip I decided to try ASMo. Upon arriving, taking FOREVER to check in, I walked into the room, walked back out and was moved to POR. The room was awful! It was dirty, still had people's stuff in it, and the decor looked like a cheap motel. Luggage was stacked up and down the halls, and and it was just really unpleasant.

For the deluxe resorts I've stayed at Contemporary, WL, AKL, Boardwalk, and Yacht and Beach Club (both). Location is amazing for CR and the Epcot resorts, but I usually left feeling like I wasted money since I wasn't in the room much.

I've stayed in all moderates except CBR, and I'm torn. Coronado had the nicest rooms, but it didn't feel very "Disney." I also didn't care for the food court. The two PO resorts are my favorites when everything is taken into consideration, and I LOVE the Alligator Bayou section of POR. Just feels quaint, cozy, and fun. Plus, POFQ doesn't have it's own dining...so I think POR is my favorite.

Feel free to ask questions! :)

Thanks everyone for your great advice :wizard:, i finally decided to book POP Century Resort Oct 1 through to October 11, and i had to change my plans to go in October instead, since i am going to New York City before i go to Orlando. I am counting down the days until i go now! If i have any questions i am sure i will ask you all!!! I am thinking of going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party while i am there so i can take in the atmosphere of Holloween since its not really that big in Australia.

I own DVC so I always go that route. I'm taking my first solo trip this coming January and I'm staying at OKW near the hospitality house. This way I don't have as much walking and I'm close to everything. If BLT (our home resort) would of had availability I would of stayed there. I like being a hop, skip, and jump from the monorail.

My main concern when I traveled solo in November '10 was safety. I love all of the Disney resorts, but, as a single solo woman, getting in late at night, I wanted security. Now we all know Disney is safe, but, you never know!!!

My first 2 night I spent in All Star Movies. The hotel was great and my first time there. Loved the theme!! It was quite big and I wasn't a big fan of walking around in the dark. Next time I'd ask for a room where the door faces the pool area as mine faced the Sports resort.

The next 6 nights I stayed at Poly. I did this for 2 reasons. 1) I've always wanted to stay there!! 2) It's a monorail hotel with great bus service. I was extremely satisfied and would recommend it if you're willing to spend a few more bucks!

Personnally looking at Solo Trip, and my thought is to go with the the most I can afford and closest for walking to any one of the major resorts. In this case looking at GF as an option. Why not!!
