Hard one this as there are quite a few options, have a look on holidayextras for an idea of prices etc. A lot of people like the hilton as its so close to the south terminal, but it can be a bit expensive.

Also depends on what airline you fly: Virgin flies from the South Terminal, British Airways flies from the North Terminal. Don't know which terminal the charters fly from (South?).

The Hilton is right next to (i.e. short walk) from the South Terminal. The Sofitel is connected by a covered walkway to the North Terminal.

We have flown Virgin a number of times from Gatwick and stayed at the Sofitel (well, it was the Meridien then...). That was fairly simple: you would get a luggage trolley and walk to the North Terminal with your luggage, then hop on the monorail to the South Terminal.

We used to like the Rennaissance (short bus ride from both terminals), but have heard some very bad reviews about it recently... Really didn't like the Moat House (next to the Rennaissance, not as nice and the bus stopped at the Rennaissance before the Moat House - sometimes the bus fills up and wont pick-up at the Moat House...)

Like gavvy says, the best place for hotels and hotel & parking packages appears to be holidayextras.co.uk

Hi

We have always stayed at Hilton & it's been fine - although parking is in long stay/holiday park & you have to get the bus.

If you don't want to eat at the hotel (expensive) can always walk into the airport.

The Hilton, Sofitel and Gatwick Holiday Inn all now do Chauffeur parking options (i.e. you had your keys over when you check into the hotel, the night before your flight, they meet you at the terminal ith your car when you land on your return).

Look at holidayextras.co.uk for details, but for illustration puposes:
- Gatwick Hilton:
* £124.38 room only
* £179.82 room with 15 days "self" parking*
* £199 with 15 days "meet and greet" parking
- Gatwick Sofitel:
* £99 room only
* £157 room with 15 days "self" parking*
* £170 with 15 days "meet and greet" parking
- Gatwick Holiday Inn:
* £87 room only
* £139 room with 15 days "self" parking*
* £149 with 15 days "meet and greet" parking

So it isn't a LOT more if you are only require 15 days (or less parking) to do the "meet and greet" service (with a lot less hassle).

It is different if you are doing more - we need 19 days parking. It works out quite a bit cheaper to do self park at the sofitel (£99 room only + £60 seperate self park) than the meet and greet (£170 meet and greet package + 4 extra days at £8 a day = £206). But it is still not bad... (about £45 difference).

we have booked the hilton for october 2007, but parking wasnt included and it was £170, so we have also booked bcp meet and greet for parking

We have stayed at www.gatwickmanor.co.uk It was very nice and cost something like £120 for 1 night and 15 days parking. The only downfall was that we had to get a taxi back to the hotel to collect our car on our return - and we waited almost 40 minutes for a cab.

Last year, we stayed at the Hilton but we didn't have car parking./ It cost about the same but was much more convenient and we would be staying there again this year, except Holiday Extras doesn't seem to have any availability for the Hilton at the moment (we do want to stay there, though) so may end up booking direct with them and booking car parking separately.

You will probably get a much better rate at the Hilton with "Meet and Greet" with holidayextras nearer the time (about £200 all in). It might be worth looking again in 6 or 9 months time IF your current reservations are cancellable without penalty. Just a thought, if it leaves more money for buying goodies in Orlando... :)

We're looking to stay at the Hilton on the night of the 9th October this year. I have checked and checked but nothing coming up.

That's odd, I am seeing availability at the Hilton there on holidayextras.co.uk for the night of the 9th October 2006:
- £124.38 room only
- £122.22 room only, but includes a two course dinner for two
- £179.82 room only + 15 days parking
- £174.84 room only, but includes a two course dinner for two + 15 days parking
- £199 room only + 15 days meet and greet parking

Try entering "BDCKBG" in the "retrieve quote" box on the title bar (i.e. at the top) on the home page.

Can you see it now?

It's only for a double or twin room - we need a family or quad room - there are 4 of us. Thanks for trying anyway.

I have done the Hilton a few times, needed two rooms for the kids, parking is accross the raod as said, I like it as you can walk to from the Airport any time, so you can shop eat, do late night check in etc,.

:rolleyes: slightly off topic, but we stayed at a hotel at gatwick and parked our car there, it was like faulty towers, you have never seen anything like it :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
dh thought it was hysterical, appealed to his european sense of humour, i however did not find it so funny (having a degree in hospitality sort of makes you realsie what you should get... :rolleyes: )
to top it all when we got to va check in, just checked in our luggage and there aws a bomb scare and complete evacuation of the building, at least WE didn t have to take our suitcases with us... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
bad start to a fab holiday
(whisper we are flying from manchester this time as no way am i going through that stress again :confused3 :confused3

Have now managed to book the Hilton through the CSMA at a pretty good rate of £171 for family room plus 15 days parking :)

Fantastic! That sounds like a very good rate to me! Glad that you got it all sorted out - will be a fantastic start to the holiday :)
