I am helping a friend plan a trip to DL and DCA. Does anyone have any experience with and/or suggestions for a resort they love to stay in while traveling to DL with a loved one with a cognitive disability and sensory issues?
I'm guessing something not extremely small, loud or crowded feeling would be best. I'm not familiar with all of the good neighbor hotels in the area and thought someone might have a great suggestion.
Thanks!

Fairfield Inn on Harbor Boulevard. It's (or it was, I haven't been to DL since 2005) across from one of the main paths to the parks. A bit further away on Harbor (couple of blocks) is the apparently popular Candy Cane Inn, but I think it's motel-style. Fairfield is all indoor corridors.

Try asking this on the Disneyland (California) forum -- we have many DISers there who have family members dealing with all kinds of issues, so you should get good help and suggestions there. This thread has lots of good information: "Choosing the Right DLR Area Hotel for You" www.disboards.com/threads/choosing-the-right-hotel-for-you.3656512/. When we're not on site, we've had very good experience with the Candy Cane Inn: clean, nice rooms, great customer service, generous continental breakfast (free), private shuttle that runs on time, free parking, nice pool area, etc. We find the premium rooms work very well for our needs. CCI offers various discounts -- have your friend check to see if anything applies for their dates. CCI is on the same side of Harbor as the parks, is about a 10 minute walk from the gates (if not using the private shuttle), and only involves one small crosswalk.

Another Candy Cane fan. Adding to what theluckyrabbit said, it's on the same side of Harbor as the DL entrance and the only road you have to cross to get there is the bus entrance to DL (so not a lot of road traffic). It is motel-style with the rooms opening up onto a sidewalk and then the cobbled parking lot. The breakfast/pool area is in a gated area in the middle of the parking. We always ask to stay on the ground floor due to my son's preferences. We usually hear some noise from people walking by on the way to the parks, but we've been lucky enough (or they have good enough insulation) to never have any issues with the rooms next to us.

We stayed at Fairfield once several years ago (2013?) so they may have renovated by then, but we had a lot of issues with noise - excited kids running up and down the hallways. It may have just been the particular people next to us, though, and the fact that we spent unusual hours in the room due to having a toddler.

There are a couple of Best Westerns literally across the street on Harbor Blvd. . We stayed at one that had a great breakfast included. We also stayed at the Camelot Inn. No breakfast but it was also close to the entrance.
