Hi everyone!

My husband and I are going to Disney in September. I'm trying to decide where to stay. In your opinion, what Disney resort/hotel is the best for Adults w/o kids? I don't have unlimited funds so I do need keep the price around $200 or less per night. Is there a hotel close to Disney that you like? I realize that no matter where we stay in or around Disney, there will always be kids. I don't mind that; however, if I can stay somewhere that might be a little more adult friendly (not a lot of screaming kids up and down the halls banging on doors, stroller brigades, etc.).....my husband would have a happier Disney vacation and I in turn would be happier. :teeth:

Thanks for your help!

I think the two lodges - Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge are
both great choices. I'm happy at either Port Orleans French Quarter
or Riverside at the Moderates level, too.

Granted, you are at a Disney resort, so you will see a lot of kids. But you
probably won't get a lot of the commotion you described at the resorts
I've suggested. (But there's always a chance some rambunctious families
will be staying wherever you are. LOL)

You could also look into renting points from DVC members. Check out
the DVC section of the DIS forums for FAQ's about this. You can stay
at nice resorts for a LOT less than paying Disney out of pocket.

I agree with the previous poster. Also, have you thought of the Swan or Dolphin? They are part of the Westin chain I believe and often have special rates and offer discounts to government workers, teachers, and nurses. It can definitely appeal to a more adult clientle with it's avante garde architecture, subdued room decor and "heavenly beds," proximity to Epcot, and interesting restaurants. Oh, and the karaoke at the Swan's sushi restaurant, Kimonos, is the best. The grotto-style pool complex appeals to adults and kids.

The Boardwalk Inn is also a great adult resort, but I'm not sure if you can get rates in your price range.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help! I'll check out your suggestions. I didn't know teachers could get a discount at the Swan and Dolphin. I like the proximity of those hotels to Epcot. I would LOVE to stay at the Boardwalk but I can't justify the price for just the two of us. I'll also take a look at renting some points from DVCrs. I wasn't aware that you could do that. As for Wilderness Lodge and AKL, I had those in mind already....good to see that you concur.

Thanks again!

For Moderates, I was thinking of Coronado Springs. Although I've never stayed there, since it has convention facilities, I would think there would be more adults there. I've stayed at both POR and POFQ, and although I love them both, there are lots of kids. Anyone have any info on CS?

I would say any of the wdw resorts, except values, are great for adults. I've stayed, and am staying again in Sept, at CSR with my dh. It's a great hotel for couples - a great hot tub and romantic walk around the lake. Since it's Sept., I'm hoping there won't be too many kids either.

If my funds were more flexible, I would have stayed at AKL or at the Epcot resorts, or the Poly. I think you'd be happy with any of the deluxes if your budget allows but I think you'd also enjoy CSR.

You've got some good choices for DVC if you want proximity to Epcot
(Boardwalk Villas, Beach Club Villas) or Wilderness Lodge (Villas at Wilderness
Lodge).

If you rent with a check in day of Sunday, check out Friday, those 5 nights
will be next to nothing to rent in comparison to booking a studio direct
from central reservations. I haven't rented my points out, but I think
the going rate is about $10-12 per point. If I rented a studio points
booking at BCV in November, and let's say I did it for $10 per point, it
would have come to $600 for 5 nights.

That's $120 per night, at a deluxe resort with a microwave, coffeemaker and
mini fridge. Not a bad deal when you consider that Disney charges a LOT
more per night and adds tax. When you rent someone's points, there's
no tax involved.

Some DVC renters will rent Friday and Saturday night's points, but the point
values are deliberately higher than weeknight points, to prevent anyone
from monopolizing weekend bookings. (I book the 5 weeknights with the
weekends at Pop Century. I don't mind the kids.)

Are you looking only to be on Disney property or offsite locations as well? I like the theming of the Wilderness Lodge but I'm not sure that is within the budget you suggested. Saratoga Springs or Old Key West resorts are also relaxing. Offsite, you can try resorts such as Orange Lake Country Club (OLCC) or Sheraton's Vistana Village. OLCC is spread out, about 1200 arcres, roughly 4 miles from Disney. It borders the Animal Kingdom.

If you want moderate level onsite, we LOVED POFQ. If you want offsite, we stayed at Caribe Royale for our honeymoon a couple years ago and loved it. They also have a deal on Mousesavers right now for Caribe Royale to get a suite (normally 150+) for $115, so if they have this rate during your stay, ask for it when you book.

Value - Pop Century - WDW puts more singles and couples here

Moderate - CSR - again WDW puts more single and couples here

Deluxe - GF - much too expensive and not my taste - but definitely less children also the YC - again not my taste!!!

if you decide to rent points I would go with OKW. Yes, you can't walk to the parks like you can wth BWV or BCV. Yes the studio has 2 queen beds not the 1 queen bed like all the other DVC resort. So it is not as romantic.

but this is a great resort. lots of room to relax!!!

OKW is 8 points per night Sun-thurs - so a total of $80 a night ($10 a point). But I think is a great selling point.

SSR is 11 points per night.

I also might try to get a standard room at BWV it will run you $90 a night. (well probably more - most DVC member charge more for a standard room at BWV than they would other places - they are that much more harder to get)

however even at $12 a point - it is only $108 (9 points) vs the $120 for the preferred or BW preferred rooms.

I looked into the teacher rates at the Swan/Dolphin and they sounded good, but believe it or not...they weren't available for school vacations?! I inquired about summer availability and was told there were no teacher rates out at that time! I found it rather perplexing! Since we cannot set our own vacation times and are at the mercy of the school calendar. Good luck!

we were at the WL last sept and it was PACKED with kids and families
its a great resort for kids and very affordable as it is cheaper than the other deluxes so if oyu want peace i would think about something else
this was sept 18 thru 23 last year

Simba’s Mom & vanyel – I actually have a temporary hold at CSR with the free dining plan this fall. However, my husband informed me last night that he would rather not stay at a moderate resort this trip. I think it’s due to an unpleasant experience we had at Dixie Landings about 5 years ago (even though I’m sure it was just an isolated incident.) Since this trip is for him, I’m not going to push it…even though it’s really the price range I want to go for. Vanyel – be sure to report your stay at CSR when you get back. I still plan on staying there someday when we won’t be so rushed.

Briar Rosie – the DVC’s look nice. Unfortunately, we are going to Orlando for a 4-day weekend (Thur –Mon) so I wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the lower point option. I’m glad to know that you can rent points like that. This is definitely an option for future trips…especially when I take my nieces and nephews on an upcoming trip. However, I’m still thinking about it for this trip, should I decide not to stay at a deluxe hotel. The advantage for us to stay at a Disney resort (non-DVC) for this trip is the free dining option offered. I’ve got to make up my mind soon as this offer expires July 3rd.

gjw007 – I stayed at the OLCC in 2002. I liked it a lot. We were with some friends who got the 2-bedroom condo for $299 for the week through a timeshare promo they had. You can’t beat that! I have no idea how much it costs for just us regular folks who don’t own a timeshare. We actually participated in their timeshare sales pitch to get discounted Disney tickets. Never again! What was supposed to be “an hour or less” of our time turned out to be 4 hours and a missed morning at EPCOT. Ha! I’d like to get by without renting a car this trip but if the price is right……..

By the way, how does Sheraton’s Vistana Village compare to OLCC? I’ll call and check out the prices.

Sunny04 – should we choose not to stay at one of the resorts at Disney, I’ll definitely consider Caribe Royale. I checked out their Website…it looks good. My husband would like the suites. Thanks for the suggestion. Love those discounts!

spiceycat…love that name! I have 4 kitties at home that I absolutely adore. Anyway, the vacation clubs at Disney sound really good. As I was telling Briar Rosie above, the only reason I’m checking out the Disney hotels for this trip is the free dining option offered this fall. However, if I can pay for points and come out better than the deluxe hotel offering (assuming I can get points), then I might go this option. My husband would like a suite better than a regular hotel room. I am so glad to know we can rent these points. If I don’t do it this trip, I will try for an upcoming trip…one that I can take advantage of the Sun-Thur lower price. I’m envious of your ownership in 3 resorts! Several (ok, many) years ago, I had a chance to buy into OKW (when it was the only DVC available.) I should have done it while I had the chance….at the lower rate too!

kmjmom – I checked into the teacher rates as well for this September. NONE. Ha! I agree with you....just seems odd that the time the teachers are on vacation, the discounts aren’t available! I’m sure it’s because that’s when everyone else is on vacation. (…grumble….)

Alicnwondrln – thanks for the heads up on WL. We’re going to WDW on Sept 15 – 19 so I’m sure it will be about the same this year. Really, I don’t expect to escape the families and kids. This is Disney, after all! However, some hotels are better suited than others for adults and solos looking for a little more of a peaceful atmosphere. Right now, should I stay at a Disney deluxe resort, I’m leaning toward the AKL…savannah view. This is a lot more than I wanted to pay. I’m still trying to justify the cost. A friend of mine just got back from there and she said it was one of the best experiences she’s had at a Disney resort (and she has stayed at all of them excluding the DVC resorts.)

I would like to thank everyone for all of the good suggestions! Decisions, decisions! I’ve been to Disney several times but for some reason, this has been one of the more difficult trips to plan. Oh, maybe it’s because it’s just Grumpy and me on this trip. Ha!

Have a good day!

Susie

DH and I love staying at the POFQ. We've only stayed onsite twice and had a great time. Our last visit was this past May. We found it to be very quiet. We asked for Bldg 1, third floor. :flower:

September is one of my favorite times to go to Disney..The week after Labour Day ALL the kids are back in school so the Brits are the only ones you have to contend with!!(But they are the friendliest!!)
All the resorts with the exception of ALL Star Music...Sports &Movies I would count those out too many kids no matter when ya go!!...I even found POP was great..The POR was like you were'nt in Disney which was good for peaceful times after the Parks...I found that serene..I cant afford the deluxe places unless they havereally good deals..being a solo traveler I ust need a place to lay my weary body after the parks close nothing fancy!!!
Hope that helps!! : ) : )

I think there are some schools off for that week but not enough to upset your plans.

AKL or WL are both wonderful resorts. Designed by the same person.

they are between a moderate and a deluxe. the rooms are not big enough (my opinion) to be considerate a full deluxe. You could almost fit 2 WL rooms into one of the polyn's Tahiti rooms.

but they are both beautiful resorts!!!

so it will probably be AKL Sept 15 - 19!!!

we will be there Sept 10-17 me and mother are staying at Orange Lake, my brother and his family and his children's friend (6 in all) are staying at Celebration world resort plus their dog.

Spicey (the cute little guy in the picture) will be at FW kennels.

Vivianne - We stayed at Dixie Landings (PO-R now, I think) a few years back and I thought it was a very good moderate. We had some minor problems there and now my husband wants to try something different. Also, at the time, I didn't know anything about the hotel layout and we were put in a room at the far end of the property. I don't mind the walking but when it's raining....eeek. Next time I stay at a moderate, I would like to stay at POFQ or CSR. I think staying on a higher floor as you did would be the way to go. I think some of the problems we had before might have been elimnated had we been able to switch from a lower floor.

auntie pooh....love those Brits! Most of the ones I've met both here and abroad had the best sense of humor! I'm also glad to know you like visiting in Sept. Here's hoping for a hurricane-free trip. Also hoping for a hurricane-free season for the folks in Florida!!!

spiceycat - your little fellow is a cutie! Has he stayed at the FW kennels before? If so, were you pleased with them? A friend of mine is planning on going to Disney next year and he asked me if I knew anything about the kennels on Disney property (I don't).

I stayed at OL a few years back and I really liked it. I love the proximity to WDW. If I had my nieces and nephews with me, we'd be staying in a place like that. However, for this trip, we are not planning on renting a car so ... I need a resort with transportation. Have fun! Looks like we'll be there about the same time. Hope the weather cooperates!

Oh, and by the way, I have toured the WL and I thought it was absolutely beautiful! I could be happy staying there. We are choosing to stay at AKL partly because I am a big animal lover and I'm hoping to see some wildlife other than the two-legged kind outside of my hotel room . :p
