Best hotel directly across from Disneyland?

We're currently booked at Hojo--which sounds like fun--but I think we may be better off with a closer hotel. Any recommendations for any right across the street from DLR? I'm looking for one in the moderate range, but would consider a nicer one as long as it's under $200/night (this will be in Sept).

Closest is BWPPI which gets great reviews for cleanliness and proximity. Tropicana and Camelot are sister hotels and are fairly similar in ammenities provided.

I don't think any of these are nicer than the HoJo, just a few steps closer.

What specifically are you looking for that you don't think you'll find at HoJo?

I know, aren't I awful? . And this will be our second switch--I was orginally booked at the Disneyland Hotel!

My main possible issue with HoJo is the walk. Dh and I would be fine with it, but we'll only have two (umbrella) strollers for three kids, and my kids are so whiny when they're tired. I know once the kids start whining on the walk back to the hotel Dh will point out the closer hotels and start whining himself about why we didn't stay there.

Also, with Ho Jo we'll for sure have to up-grade to the premium rooms--I didn't realize the standard rooms had just double beds. Our 4 year old will be sleeping with us, so we definetely need a queen-size bed. I figure since we'll have to pay more for the room anyway maybe we'd just be better off staying closer?

And then there's the pirate pool. My kids will LOVE it!! However, that might actually end up being a problem . We only have 3 full days at DLR, and I'm afraid with the pirate pool we'll end up spending more time swimming than in the parks. We have a really nice community pool in my town we'll be using all summer, so I hate to spend much time in the pool at the hotel (mean Mom, I know!).

I'm still not sure what to do. Such a dilemma!

Walk along the other side of the street. Do not walk on the non-Disney side with all the hotels!

I don't know about the bed thing...but we had a normal room booked with the Entertainment Book rate last September, and got two hefty Queen sized beds, and we have the EB rate booked in a few weeks and in my email confirmation it states 2 Q beds as well.

You're so lucky you'll be there for the pirate pool! Biggest mistake I have made (twice this year!) is that we don't take breaks for swimming, and I end up with a very cranky hubby and very crabby son! Swimming breaks are goooood, but all we'll have is the garden pool for our stay.

If you go to http://www.hojoanaheim.com, you can find the "hotel information" drop-down menu. "hotel room layouts" gives you a PDF to look at. There you can see that the double-double rooms are in the buildings dangermouse mentioned in your other post, but you can see that there are other buildings. The building we stayed in, it turns out, last September was building 2 with a view of the garden pool, and those were definitely queen beds.

So it's not ALL double doubles. Maybe you can call/email lorealle, and see if anything can be marked on your reservation, even though you made it through a travel company?

We stayed at HOJO last time we visted and they walk wasn't too long, it really is a great price and location.

The Hojo is so nice and with the addition of the new pool, it will be even better. However, I understand your desire to be closer! As much as we enjoyed the Hojo, we have gotten sort of spoiled staying right there at the crosswalk.

My favorite is the Tropicana. It has a few nice landscaping touches to make it feel a bit less parking lotish, has a very nice (but small) pool. The rooms have been redone in the not too distant past. They have some suites. You also get a free (minimal) but free breakfast.

I also like the BWPPI, we did a mini suite which had two beds and a sleeper sofa. That was a really nice, spacious room. The pool there is small, really small and it annoyed me they won't let you take the free breakfast back to your room. I have no idea why they don't. In any case, that room we had their, the mini suite was wonderful. And you cannot get closer to the gates of DL/DCA than the Best Western Park Place Inn.

For $200 a night you may be able to get the PPH or DLH which are on property.

To be right across the street try Desert Inn and Suites. We were booked there, until we got the ent rate for Hojo's, which we really did enjoy. However, at the end of the day, and we would walk out of the parks, we were cursing ourselves that we couldn't just stop right there at DI&S. Or the Best Western Park Place Inn. When you have been walking all day, believe me, those extra minutes made a huge difference.

What does everyone think of the Candy Cane Inn?

My family loves the Candy Cane! We've stayed there many times, most recently just a couple of weeks ago (so sad to be home again).

Pool, free breakfast, clean rooms, good prices, beautifully landscaped, walking distance to DLR (but also a free shuttle that is very welcome after a long day at DL! ).

It's the only hotel we've ever stayed at in Anaheim so I can't tell you how it compares to other places, but we recommend it to all our friends.

i've stayed twice on harbour blvd. 1st was the ramada and we loved it. close enough walk. it was clean and we had zero problems with any of the staff. second time was at the carosuel and while it was close, clean and zero staff issues.the only problem was the room was tiny. i mean i could roll off the bed and hit the wall and get wedged there. maybe it was just the room we got but it was quiet a bit smaller than a standard hotel room. we go in nov. and we have booked the ramada for that trip.

I loved the Ramada too..bed the beds we had were doubles not queens. didn't matter since it was just DD and myself.
