Best Honeymoon Resort?

It all depends on what theme you like. We are staying at CBR because we love tropical themes and have never stayed before. We normally stay at POP, so a moderate is a splurge for us. If money wasn't an object, we'd be thinking of:

Poly - never stayed there, love the food
AKL - ditto above
WL - just sounds cool
Boardwalk - DS wants to stay there
GF - just because, LOL

We just returned from POR and really loved it. We stayed in Alligator Bayou and it was neat. One day we hope to have tried out all the WDW resorts (and restaurants).

We stayed at the Poly and I was disappointed! I had heard such great things and always wanted to stay there but after staying at the GF the night before we checked into the Poly - in my opinion - the poly just can't compare to the GF.
If we could afford it, I'd stay at the GF every time!

POFQ was a great hotel and very good for couples I have also stayed at the GF and i will prob never stay there again there is just something about it I did not like. We are staying at the POLY for out honeymoon next year my whole family is jealous b/c everyone has wanted to stay there for a long time and we finally splurged since it is our honeymoon and it was one of the choices with what stateroom we got we took it.

with all this advice now i really *really* can't decide!

i'm thinking that maybe just this once i will splurge on a GF room (no way am i paying for a suite!) because it is my honeymoon after all.

AKL i have to admit really draws me too, but its so separated from everything. I really wanted to be on the MK monorail line just this once.

at some point in my life i think i will try to stay at all the different resorts (ok maybe not ALL of them, but i will try!) i'm definately going to keep coming back to WDW enough times...

oh, i also wanted to mention that i have stayed at PO riverside last time i was in WDW (2003) and i did really like it a lot. i just want to try something different for my honeymoon.

i really appreciate everyone's advice on this!

I'm just curious what you didn't like about it?

I really don't know it just did not seem as welcoming as the other resorts i have stayed at. it is beautiful and the rooms are great but for some reason to me personally it seemed alittle to stuck up to me i know that sounds stupid and i know alot of people like it but its just not for me or my family they did not like it either. i guess it just wasn't the typical disney atmosphere we were expecting and looking forward to. i know that isn't a specific thing i guess it was all of that together.

Just to add my two cents... We didn't feel the Grand Floridian was stuffy - just overrated. For the prices they're charging, the service, the amenities, and the facilities could be a lot nicer. You'd get a lot more bang for your buck at a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton for the same price.

Granted, we had a pretty bad experience with a belligerent guest in the next room and had to wait several hours before they'd move us to a new room, but these were our conclusions before that experience.

I totally understand what disney honeymooners means about the Grand. I think we felt much more relaxed at the POFQ than we did at the Grand.

I loved the Contemporary with the Magic Kingdom view. Watching the fireworks from your balcony in your pjs can't be beat. :thumbsup2 But of course this was before the renovation, so I'm not sure what it's like now.

We're planning on staying at the Boardwalk - we're more Epcot fans than we are MK. Plus the wedding and reception are there, so it makes somewhat sense! We're going to be down there 11 days, so the price difference between the CR and Boardwalk will add up.

We stayed at POFQ last trip and absolutely loved it - fantastic CMs and beautiful surroundings. We're staying there for the honeymoon portion of our trip, transfrring there from POP the day before the wedding - have to have some photos of me in the gardens at POFQ!

We are staying at the Wilderness lodge. We were thinking GF, but it doesn't look "Disney." If that makes sense. Neither of us has ever stayed at WL though, so I cant say if it is a romantic choice.

It is SO romantic!!! you will love it. We stayed there on our honeymoon in December, so it was extra awesome bc of all the Christmas decorations, but I seriously cannot say enough good things about WL!!! It is our favorite resort by far!

WL and Poly are two fantastic and romantic resorts in the MK area. For a view you can't beat staying at the CR in the tower with a MK view.

We stayed in a garden suite at the Boardwalk Inn and it was incredible! 2 stories with huge jacuzzi tub and walk in shower and very private.

I can't speak from experience, but I would say splurge on your honeymoon resort if you can. I'm sure you'll have plenty of trips in the future where you have to be more budget conscious. That's why we decided to stay at the GF for our June trip. With the 4/3 deal it really is a bargain and we may not ever get the chance to stay there again. We have always wanted to stay there and even stayed at the inspiration hotel, The Hotel Del, and loved it, so I'm sure we'll love Disney's version even more!

If it were me I'd pick GF in the monorail resort area or BWI in the Epcot area or maybe both if I was going for two weeks!

I have mixed feelings about all of the resorts - I think they all have +s and -s. But anyhoo I thought I would comment that I read the new travel and leisure magazine with the article on the top 500 hotels in the world.

For Orlando:

AKL, GF and WL were mentioned and were the only disney resorts recognized. The Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes won for number 1 in Orlando and is listed as being quite less expensive than the above three disney resorts.

In all honesty I think that the best resorts are going to depend on who you are and what your tastes and expectations are. I would always stay at disney just for the convenience.

Everyone raves about the Poly - but after travelling all over french polynesia and the south pacific I don't think it even compares to a number of the hotels we stayed in - therefore for us its a big disappointment. For people who have not had similiar experiences it prolly is a great experience. Once again it just depends on who you are.

I should also add (to be fair) that for Anaheim, Disney's Grand Californian was the only hotel in the area to be recognized.

None of the other disney hotels throughout the world were recognized which I really don't understand because places like the Miracosta are really really spectacular. The only thing I can figure is that there was more of a focus on the US and everything outside of the US was limited to more popular downtown hotels. :confused3
