I have a bunch of photos I need to organize and I thought what better way than to start a scrapbook..

However, I'm not the most creative soul in the world......what hints do you have for a newbie?

1. Don't try to be too orderly! Scrap whatever you like whenever you like. You can place your pages in whatever order you like and then remove them and rearrange them later if you want. This really takes the pressure off and helps get the creative juices flowing.

2. Don't go overboard with the embellishments. They should ENHANCE the photos, not over shadow them.

3. Check out twopeasinabucket.com for some great inspiration and creative ideas!

I would add:
Find a friend and buddy up. Great night out and to bounce ideas off

Go easy on supplies... (I know I dont' follow this one!) BUt it is easy to buy way too much. I wish I waited on buying stickers! I have way too many! Now I only buy them if I know I will use them! I use to buy them because I liked them!

Check lots of peoples layouts on the web or mags. To get a feel for it.

Start with simple and then build on it!
It is the best hobby! Enjoy! That is probably the best advice! Enjoy it!

I agree Hunny Pots and add these:
1. It's your book. Do it the way YOU like. There is no "right" way.
2. Don't buy every tool at first. Join a scrapping group at an LSS or contact a Creative Memories consultant so you can use their stuff and see if you like it before buying it.
3. Get with a group of people that scrap. You'll learn a ton and get energized to keep doing it.
4. Start simple and work your way into more embellished pages.
5. Don't forget to journal!!
:D Have fun! It's a neat hobby.

Let me start by saying I am a consultant for Creative Memories, but use other stuff and have attended other classes. If you can, find a Creative Memories Consultant who has workshops. Or find a class where they actually crop some pics and do some pages. Make sure they do that before hand. Some consultants to demo classes where you can't use the tools and test things out. It just depends on the particular group.

If you can find one that has workshops go to the next workshop. You will find LOTS of ideas while other people are working and be able to see how its done and ask a lot of questions.

You could also take a class at a LSS (Local Scrapbook Store). A lot have beginner classes.

The reason I reccommend CM is that they tend to push simpler pages with less embellishment than at a lot of other places. That makes it easier to start then find your way through all the rest.

If you have a LSS (local scrapbook store) alot of them have a scrapbook 101 class for newbies. I also would say go easy on the supplies, over half of what I bought in the begining I never used.
The other advice I can give you is this book is YOURS and the really great thing I like about scrapbooking is there is no right or wrong way of doing it. Only YOUR way. I don't scrapbook like my friends, they like to journel I don't. What is important to me is the name, date and where it was taken. That is enough for me and that is OK.
Good Luck and keep us posted on how your doing and WELCOME to the world of Scrapbooking. You will get alot of help and support from everyone on this forum. I've only been here a couple of months myself.
